Simple question - Do people believe that you can be 'born vegan'?
I quote this website: https://veganuary.com/myths/doesnt-meat-taste-good...
"The vast majority of vegans were not born vegan (although an increasing number now are), and have therefore consumed animal products at some point in their lives."
Sounds like b
ks to me - what do we think?

ks to me - what do we think? Not sure why many of the Vegan's i've met have INSISTED on telling me their 'status' even if food is not the topic /subject of the day/ or at a meal. Maybe you can be born Sanctimonious instead? If someone wants to restrict their food intake then that's up to them, it's the moaning or broadcasting about it that winds me up.
I know people can have intolerances to food and drink - but to be intolerant to all types of meat/fish/egg/ dairy/ animal substances sounds biologically implausible to me.
Not quite the same but still an example of bizarre food thinking - a girl i know will eat all meat but not Lamb as 'baby' lambs are cute. Ignorance is bliss eh??

Define vegan.
At one end of the spectrum there are those who prefer not to consume animal products and at the other end, full-on, card carrying, lentilist, right-on activists.
Animal products are in almost everything. At one end of the spectrum there are those who prefer not to consume animal products and at the other end, full-on, card carrying, lentilist, right-on activists.

So you are either a "vegan" which by definition is a card carrying lentillist who walks barefoot and doesn't brush their teeth, or a hypocrite.

What staggers me is how little it is to do with compassion for animals and so much more to do with their stance and how terrible everyone else is. There is no distinction between those that eat Thai factory chicken or antibiotic laden Danish 'pig-prison' bacon and people who care about welfare and source their food free range from a local farm that they have visited & verified. I'd rather eat lentils than the former but have zero moral or compassion issues with the latter with humane stress-free slaughter; my local farmer assures me of this as she actually goes! But all carnivores get lumped in the sin bin; the only mantra is how uninformed. stupid, selfish and bad we all are.

It's clear that most don't really know what a vegan 'is', I include many vegans in that.
The term vegan was coined for those who were vegetarian, but also eschew eggs, dairy and honey.
It has since been railroaded by animal rights activists and nut-jobs. There's a lot of 'vegan' processed junk food which they'll happily consume, so long as no animals are involved.
In the western world whole-food plant-based diet is rapidly gaining popularity, especially West Coast USA. These are pretty much vegan but simply fresh fruit and vegetables without the baggage and no/minimal industrially processed foods.

conversely a good mate of mine is from Tanzania. lives here now.
he sees no point in vegetables. basically he's done living in a hut and being poor, eating badly.
if foods on offer he wants to eat meat, not the garnish.
don't forget it was only when the British became rich, had holidays, had leisure time (in the victorian era) people could start poncing around with food.

I will fight until my very last breath for people to be allowed to be a vegetarian or vegan, but I think they are terribly misguided and very often quite stupid.
Most of us could do with eating less meat, we just don't need to eat as much as we do and there is quite a bit of agricultural capacity taken up producing meat that would be more efficient producing plants for direct human consumption. At it's best, keeping livestock is excellent for using land that is otherwise unproductive and livestock are great at eating bi-products of human food production and converting them into food. But to me it's a little wasteful of land when crops are grow on productive lowland ground specifically to be converted to meat, but that is what the market demands, but it's not my problem.
We have a vegan and her daughter as clients on our livery yard. They are quite bonkers and as yet, I've not quite understood what is vegan about keeping a fat horse in a wooden box.
