Whats your most annoying double standard

I cant stand double standards, the one that frustrates me is, why is the 4 letter abbreviation for someone who comes from Pakistan considered racist, but calling a british person a brit is not.
I'd say that this is because the former was invented & intended specifically as a slur, whereas the latter is simply & literally an abbreviation with no negative connotations. I consider 'Brit' to be a complimentary term, one that may be used to denote patriotism or whatnot - I use it for myself if trying to emphasise that I'm privileged to have been born here, or would serve this country before any other. dieseluser07 said:

Depends on who's responsible for the nickname. And how it is used.
It's not the word that causes the problem, it's the context.

Wasn't considered racist in Australia when I was there a few years ago. TV cricket commentary for Australia v Pakistan. Was a bit shocked tbh.Arif110 said:

Intrestingly, I have a Indian friend who has used 'that' word to refer to people from Pakistan. And he himself would take offense if he was called it - but in the same way that perhaps a Scot would take offense if mistakenly called English.

We can have MOBO awards, but not MOWO awards. (Not that the show would consist of much....). Just think of the stink if someone tried.
Once, I may have wholeheartedly agreed, except; mobo awards, it appears the the judges understand quite clearly the meaning of the last word 'Origin' and have been known to make awards to non black artists as well.I am no expert on the subject as I can't bear hip hop, house, garage, jungle, rap and their permeations (give me classic jazz and soul any day), so I remain open to correction.
My missus.
Hates people eating in the living room. But it's fine for her to miss her mouth, leave crisps, popcorn and salt allover the floor.
She hates people using pads/phones at the kitchen table, especially meal times. But it's OK for her to sit playing games when it's just us 2.
If I leave one car magazine on the coffee table she'll ask 'how long is that going to be there' ? Hmmm, probably as long as all the s
t you have left on the dining room table, rendering it totally useless as a dining table.....

For example, Gay Pride. There isn't a "Straight Pride" movement because being being straight hasn't ever been a reason for discrimination our downright hatred. Gay Pride is people celebrating the fact that they can be open about their sexuality and free from persecution.
The same goes for being black, or of any other non-white skin colour I guess. It wasn't very long ago that such a thing meant segregation and now things have changed.
Women used to not enjoy the same status as men, with different levels of pay the norm, and of course women's groups sprung from such inequality.
Personally I'm of the opinion that we have perhaps gone too far the other way, and it's certainly the case that positive discrimination exists in many walks of life.

MOBO awards exist to celebrate music of several genres that share a similar origin, not to celebrate people of a specific race.
Several abreviations for cultures (like Pakistani, Aboriginal and Japanese) were used as racial slurs in relatively recent history.
Gay Pride exists because for a significant part of history, including recently, the default position of society was Gay Shame.

History. Has Brit bashing ever been a thing? When you hear someone refer to you as a Brit, do you feel threatened or that you could end up on the wrong end of a vicious beating? I have Asian friends. They are also Brits. If they were out with some Americans and were called Brits, they wouldn't feel in danger. If they were out with white Brits and were called a P**i, they would.
That's the difference. Anyone who doesn't get that is frankly a bit thick.
