New slant on the sinking, it was a fire that was in existence when the ship left Belfast, and this is based on two pictures taken at Belfast that shows a 'mark' on the Starboard side of the ship.
They have cited various quotes taken from the subsequent enquiry about this, and claim this was the cause, as the intense heat buckled the bulkhead causing the widespread flooding.
They now say that the reason why the ship didnt carry enough lifeboats was because of the bulkheads and it being unsinkable, completely ignoring the fact that at the time the BoT did not stipulated that sufficient be carried.
Also, they have not shown any other photos showing the starboard side either taken at Southampton not Cobh to back up this claim.
Lots of suposition but just another programme to boost the income of a run of the mill journalist IMHO

The bunker fire theory is nothing new. My late Grandfather was a brick layer at various gasworks back in the late '30s and bunker fires were surprisingly quite common on coal powered ships as well as at the gasworks.
The weight of the coal compresses itself and self ignites a bit like Diesel.
When the RMS Lusitania sank one of the conspiracy theories as to why it sank so quickly was that it was shipping high explosives for the war effort, another that it was government sabotage.
The reality was that the impact of the German torpedo kicked up a massive coal dust cloud which only needed a single spark...
