Hi, unusual request for help, I know. I wasn't sure where it should go, so in GG it is!

I work with kids in care, and an idea has been floated about a hunting game where one of the lads gets to track the rest of the group, through the woods.

We've discussed a way of monitoring a "kill", suggestions around paintball guns aren't H&S approved so we talked about supersoaker water guns...

...then someone had the idea of using a camera. So the first group hide in a designated area, Sniper guy tracks them and points are awarded for shots of the main group.

Does anyone know of a cheap, rugged camera to use? If it was shaped like a telescopic sight (like a helmet cam?) even better. It would need to take a still pic, and ideally have a flash or lowlight setting.

If anyone has other ideas on this game, let me know?

Thanks in advance

Kids in care playing at Lord of the Flies with the kid with the most confirmed "kills" getting a reward.

It'll be like a remake of Blair Witch Project.

I can see absolutely no downside to this.

Anyone got the Daily Mail newsdesk number handy?

Cheers,

Tony

Let me guess, the kid who suggested it is the one who want to be the "hunter"? I'd keep an eye on that one. rofl

I have not tried any of them, but there are a few "sniper camera" based apps/games in the Android Play Store. You can get android phones from Ali Express for £30 each or maybe someone could donate an old phone if there is only going to be one hunter. It should be fairly rugged if you get a big rubber case and a screen protector.

Here's a couple of them:

Get yourself a car phone holder for £6 or so on ebay, something like this and mount it on a toy gun with glue/cable ties.

Now you need a bluetooth camera button for £3 or so. Fix it to where the trigger is on the toy gun.

The end result should look something like this, but maybe get a less realistic looking toy gun!

As a twist, if you got more than one phone you could get a phone tracker app and stalk someone like that.

You can buy these gun setups ready made, but they are about £300 and look too realistic for kids.

If the bluetooth trigger does not work in game, you could use the regular camera app and just draw the cross hairs on the screen protector with a felt tip.

If it wasn't for the namby pamby gun laws you could take them down to the range with a .308 and see what they can hit at 400 yards.

But until that happens, one of those indoor laser gun things. Like paintball, but without the paintballs and indoors.

Whoever said "an app for everything" they meant it!

Thanks for that, also gives us a project to make the gun as well. Brilliant

Will also check out the lasertag stuff
