Gents,

Need some help; I am back in the UK for a wedding this weekend, all of my presentable / none business suits are various shades of blue / navy, none are three piece.

As a perfect colour match is not possible I have ordered a dove / light grey double breasted waistcoat (suit is single), this is so buttons on buttons wont be visible if the suit is buttoned.

Is this acceptable?!

First world problems and all.

Also, I have dark brown brogues which I think will be too much so will stick with black leather / leather bottom dress oxford shoes albeit none shiny or do I need shiny?

Have you got a tie?

Why insist on a waistcoat? A classically cut, restrained, two piece suit and a pair of shoes that'd be "business formal" will be fine at a "smart" wedding if you wear a suitable tie and button hole.

If your not in the wedding party it doesn't really matter, just dress smart. 2 piece, shirt, tie, black shoes will be fine. TBH you'd get away with black/blue trousers, shirt and tie from the supermarket at most weddings in the uk.

Choice of two ties, burgundy with a small motif or dark blue with Paisley pattern.

ATG; I just prefer it as it looks different from what i normally wear so feels more of an occasion, rather than a work event (I'd never normally wear a waistcoat), plus it should keep the Christmas pounds tucked away nicely.

My opinion is that you can't go to a wedding without a jacket if you are over the age of 16 and shirt & tie with no jacket / waistcoat seems odd.

That is what I was worried about!

Need to get the pants altered anyway so will take the jacket / waistcoat and get it adjusted (if possible), Saturday morning.

Any good tailors in Chester?

As Chester is a fairly up market town, and if you are a regular off the peg size, just nip in one of the charity shops and get yourself suitable attire. You don't even have to like it, just as long as it looks the part. Give them it back when you've finished with it.

Non! It's fking non-matching, not fking none-matching. They're different fking words, for fk's sake!

I concur with others, sack off the waistcoat, a well cut two-piece will leave you acceptably dressed and much less worried about feeling oddly dressed.
