Can anyone advise if they have had something similar to this happen and what the outcome was:

I had an email from paypal this morning with a receipt for payment to this ebay shop in Poland http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... The receipt says they are being delivered to a Mikhail Tarasov, in Russia.

Going back to early last week, I had an email from ebay which said they have reason to believe my eBay account has been used fraudulently without my permission. I reset my email and ebay password etc but there weren't any transactions in my purchase history so I didn't think anything of it. Then this comes through this morning. What is strange is that this transaction doesn't appear in my ebay purchase history so it seems that this Russian chap has used my paypal account on his ebay account - I didn't think that was possible?

The other strange thing is that the paypal resolution centre doesn't recognise the two paypal transaction IDs which are listed in my paypal account history. I've therefore just had to send them a general message with all the details in instead of being able to use the full system they have in place.

I've reset all my passwords but is it also possible that he now has the debit card details that are linked to my Paypal account? Should I be cancelling that too? First time I've had anything like this happen

Set up text validation as well. Bit of a ball ache to wait for a text everytime you log in, but it's good piece of mind. No harm in cancelling any cards associated with your Pyapal account

Are you sure the e-mail from Paypal is genuine? It's quite possibly just been sent to you on spec so that you follow their link to 'log in to your paypal account' . Then they get your Paypal login details, and the fun begins.....

Log in to your Paypal account in your normal way, not via the link they've included. If the transaction is showing then contact them . If it's not then the original was a scam and they don't have your details.

This actually might explain why Paypal is not recognising the transaction ID's. Fake page?

I didn't log in using the link in the email. I went to the website as normal and the payment is showing in my transaction history

I had similar a few months ago.

Someone had managed to use my PP with their eBay account, so I woke up one morning to 5 PP receipt emails but nothing on my eBay account.

I was able to raise queries via the resolution centre with them though and got them cancelled.

I also only ever have my credit card linked to PP.

How do they get the password to a paypal account?

If it's a fake email they are usually addressed to your email name .
Genuine ones will be addressed to you personally.
PayPal is really a shambles .
I was notified of unusual activities on my account . I contacted them to confim that I indeed had not purchased some winter tyres from an Italian suppliers and not ordered them to be delivered in Italy .
They still took €1032 from my bank account.
This was raised as a dispute, which they lost on the system .
This suspended my account all over the pre christmas period .
I had contacted my bank and they reclaimed the money .
PayPal took an age to even respond .
A quetion still un answered is if they knew it was an un authorised payment and still allowed payment is this not aiding and abetting a fraud ?

As I understand it, the normal way is to hack something unsecure (the type of thing you read about in the news where x million people have their details hacked) then try the email/password combinations from that list on other sites to catch out the people who use the same passwords everywhere.

That was quick, Paypal have already refunded the amount.

Now I'm just concerned what other information this Russian chap might have
