I've noticed a few threads recently where some posters that enjoy an argument and seem to have difficulty admitting they're wrong, have clearly been proven wrong.
You've been arguing about something and you've been proven wrong, really if you're honest and have an ounce of self awareness, you've made an arse of yourself. What do you do?

If an idiot who is clearly wrong wants to be right to the point where he's having a proper internet tantrum, probably best to just melt away quietly and "let the Wookie win"...
...or try to argue from a position of knowledge. If you can't do that qualify your statements with "as far as I understand it". Then prepare to be educated by the lawyer/surveyor/doctor/police officer/pilot on the thread who actually does know the answer. Then leave it with an "every day is a school day" comment and be happy that you learned something new today.
I can't be bothered with arguing on the internet. Except when it's getting a reaction out of someone who's clearly a bit stupid. Then it can be a lot of fun. It may be the case that I have far too much time on my hands. Certainly far more time to spend on PistonHeads than is healthy for me...

in the extremely unlikely event that i am wrong, i will let you know.
Please don't hold your breath though as it hasn't happened yet.
just kidding, i have always held up my hands and use a simple statement which i use in my personal life too..
"you were right, i was wrong, you are the king(or queen) i am nothing..."
not sarcastic at all..

I always put my hands up and apologies when someone proves me wrong.
I see it as weak and pathetic to do otherwise.

No it isn't.

(I also will admit to being wrong - like I am right now).
It is amazing to see some of the stuff people either truly believe to be fact or are too pig headed to admit is wrong.

It is not limited to the Internet. You've been arguing about something and you've been proven wrong, really if you're honest and have an ounce of self awareness, you've made an arse of yourself. What do you do?
Some people see a debate as a chance to put their view forward, whilst being open to the opposing view and the possibility of it changing their mind.
Others see a debate as a fight to 'win'.
Non-PC way of looking at it (apologies for any likely offence caused):
Arguing on the Internet is like competing in the Special Olympics; Even if you win, you're still retarded.
...Sorry again, but I have to remind myself of this everytime I have the urge to argue behind a computer screen

I'd happily admit I was wrong, should the need ever arise... generally though I only make point about stuff I know about, and if I dont frame it in a more enquiring manner.
The number of people that talk utter dirt though - my speciality is electrical and some of the self appointed expert advice that pops up regularly in the diy forum is terrible.
Oh, and you missed "twist the arguement into something else or pick holes in wording or go ad hominen when you realise your sorry ass is handed" option
What a crap thread etc

NP&E section. Some of the arguments on there are beyond comprehension.

Some of the opinions are beyond comprehension.
EG "What car is this?" and within a few posts the correct answer is given, and then folks argue it
