...fault.

Oh do they really?

How many others suffer this bullst call on a regular basis?

(from random UK mobile numbers usually, although today's was an 0208 number oddly.)

Noticed the other cold-calling thread - I usually get some guy from the Philippines calls me to tell me he's calling from the FCA's CREDIT DEPARTMENT - i do enjoy toying with them, but the call i get the most is the more common, and motoring related... insurance crap in the thread subject.

What are they calling about? Is it "if we call enough we might find a potential claimant customer"? I assume (hope) it's somehow illegal.

If they didn't ring me during the work day i'd have more time to toy with them for a comedy conversation - anyone any great ideas of how to respond?

Had a similar call at work recently asking if I'd been involved in an accident recently. Told them I had had two the week before and three the week before that. I also told them that I was planning on having another two in the coming week. When I shouted across the office asking my mate how many accidents he was planning to have in the coming week and if he would like to speak to the nice man on the telephone, the caller hung up. Strange.

"You need to update your records. I had a horrifying accident about 20 minutes ago!"
"Really!?"
"Yes, I violently shat my pants."

Ask them who they are, tell them you're a police officer and they have just rung a murder scene, ask them how they knew the victim.

Usually sts them up a bit....

Had a "Microsoft" representative call to inform me of a problem on my computer. Cheeky bar steward was calling the IT helpline. He left with several fleas in his ear.

When ever I get a call from 'BT' or 'Microsoft' I ignore anything they say and instead I ask them about the recent accident they had. Likewise the claims companies get an IT scammer. I can normally get them to hang up after a few minutes, but if they are persistent I will start coming on to them. This always gets the phone put down on me.

Ask them how they got your personal data, and do they think they are acting as the data processor or the data controller in relation to it for the purposes of the Data Protection Act.

"I was entirely at fault, I totally killed all those pedestrians" usually stops them dead in their tracks

Had two this morning, the first was the usual "I'm calling about the road traffic accident you had 3 months ago", i just put the phone down.
Then a little later, a foreign sounding woman calls and says "is this xxxx", yes it is I reply, and your postcode is "xxx", yes I reply again, "and are you using a samsung or iPhone mobile at the moment?", why do you want to know that I say, she then just promptly hangs up on me smile

Always a little disconcerting though when someone calls quoting your name and postcode, I know it's all pretty much public domain but all the same...

The cold-callers are no longer allowed to hide the number they are calling from, so previously what would have been "unknown" or "blocked ID" on your phone now has to show a valid phone number.

Which means you can add them to your blocked list more easily now of course.

I always ask them what colour underwear they're wearing. Especially the females. Kinda the stuff you'd get locked up for harassment.
"But Judge, they phoned me...!"

Put an ad on gumtree, selling a car. First "You've had an accident" call came within 5 minutes, followed by a couple more within an hour. Seems they trawl ads on a daily basis.

My iphone blocked caller list is hundreds of entries long now.

They have died down a lot since starting to block everyone. I guess it was the same old numbers each time.

Ask them if they are referring to the fatal accident that killed you, it confuses them for a moment or two before they catch on & hang up.

If they call when I have a spare moment I don't mind chatting to waste their time a bit.

"I'm calling because our records show you were involved in an accident that wasn't your fault."
"Remarkable, how did you know about that? Yes, I was. I was in the back of the car. A lorry ran into it."
"Could you tell me the date of the accident please?"
"It was October...October the 19th I think."

Then so on and eventually,

"So to recap, this was an accident in which you were in the back seat of the car and a lorry ran into your car, and this took place on the 19th of October 2016?"
"Yes, that's all correct but the accident was on the 19th of October 1993."
