Slippery slope imho towards them looking for other "undesirable" posting habits; perhaps they may even be able to intercept crime before it happens! No doubt there will be calls for my tinfoil hat ...

It shouldn't be hard to find them they've published tour dates, in fact they are at the White Oak Music Hall in Texas tonight.

Telling people/hinting towards suicide on facebook is just a shout for attention and help

People dont tend to post to facebook about how they are going to speed, steal, murder etc

is this in response to that girl that live-streamed her suicide and hung herself from a tree?

Article suggests they're going to have humans review the alert - I hope they've got a big team in place!

Not a large percentage by their own hand, though!

I last saw them in a double header with Snuff being the other band on. At half time there was a dog food eating competition, the winner being judged by being the first person to fill up a pint glass to overflowing with chunder. Great gig.

"After confirmation by Facebook's human review team, the company contacts those thought to be at risk of self-harm to suggest ways they can seek help."

You would hope that your "friends" would be the ones doing this not Facebook.

My company among others have been doing this type of stuff for ages. The challenge for facebook is not the algorithm but the volume of data.
This is the public acceptable side of the technology. To pick up their suicide warnings they are of course looking at every single post that goes up and analysing them all. That data will be used for targeted marketing and providing information on what is being discussed to companies paying for that info.

We can do the same for audio as well and probably video (not my division).

Looks like you could use this data mining output for some targeted marketing from Dignitas.

Ah good all the needy daytime tv watching losers can get even more attention. Hopefully faceache can take over the pointless police investigations of the groups of immature slappers threatening each other too.

You'd be surprised how much of a bunch of tts most peoples general "FB friends" are.
I only have about 330 people on my FB, I have met / know probably 150 of those, the rest are just acquaintances etc.

Out of the 150 people I know, I'd consider maybe 30 of them "friends" or "mates". Out of those 30 there's probably 10 I'd call close friends.
And out of that 10 there's probably only 1 or 2 who would go out of their way to help if they saw "suicidal" stuff.

Easier thing to do is not use Facebook, people gain jealousy etc from looking at other peoples profiles.

What a waste of your life on facebook, before I get a witty response I had facebook from 2009-2014, what I would give to have the wasted time of my life back.

It said in the article it would be looking for things as simple as "Are you OK?" - they could never monitor all that - people have minor car crashes, break up with SOs, drop a bottle of wine on the kitchen floor - it's hardly an uncommon phrase!
