Products removed from Prescription availability
Discussion
It is madness to have so many items readily available (and in most cases quite cheaply) on NHS Prescription.
We have a health service we are struggling to afford with the increase in life expectancy and breakthroughs in the ability to cure more diseases.
When (not if) we are able to cure all forms of cancer we will see life expectancy extended further still. But at more cost to the NHS.
It has to be right to start cutting back on what is available free to many on Prescription.
This country still provides way too much from the State's purse.
Am I alone in this view, and are there other things we should cut back on?

This is just a small, small drop in a bloody big ocean. I agree with it, and think it is a good idea, but in the grand scheme of things it will achieve not a lot. That being said, £120+ million is a lot of money and much good could be done with it.
A far bigger problem than inappropriate cheaply available items, is over-supply to those who get prescriptions free of charge (well it is to them, just not the tax payer). These meds often end up stock-piled in patients homes to eventually go out of date or be rendered useless when a change in their condition warrants a different treatment. As storage conditions at a patient's home cannot be guaranteed, any returned meds have to be destroyed. Add to this meds lost during admissions to hospital (most often during moves between wards) and the total bill to the NHS and the taxpayer is staggering.
It is far easier to stop issuing prescriptions for certain items than get Joe Bloggs of the public to actually use their essential medications responsibly.
