The old style fivers have to be spent within the next month, when they cease to become legal tender.

Got me thinking... can't remember the last time I had one.

Pretty efficient at removing old money from circulation aren't they?

We did a car boot sale last Saturday, when counting up the takings we had 7 £5 notes but only one was an old style paper version.

I'd checked last week to see if they were still legal so I'd know if anyone was trying to fob us off with one.

The old £5 will still be valid at the bank of england for all of time.
My savings tin is full of them, I'm not smasing it open when it's not quite full yet.

And to think there's still people on the local Facebook selling pages trying to sell those rare, new fivers.
