How annoying is argos!
Discussion
I buy a lot from argos, generally its a great store and always has what i need.
However, literally every single time theres a good offer on something i want, its out of stock, every single time i see a good offer i look for the 20 closest stores and not a single one has stock, this has happened about 15 times in the past year.
Do they even stock the product when they put a good deal on??

Shady practice that's been going on for years. I remember when I was a kid there was a keyboard I wanted. I couldn't afford it but then one of the big electrical chains (I can't remember which one) ran and advert in the local paper offering it at an almost too-good-to-be-true price. Turned out it was too good to be true - none of the stores had one in stock.
Wiggle, the online cycling store does similar.
A particularly overpriced small item that I need regularly costs, typically, around £7.99 at various online and bricks'n'mortar shops. I often get a notification of it being "reduced" so I'll log in and move it from my "wish list" to my "shopping basket" only to find that, at £5.49 it is out of stock. So I'll stick a stock alert on, an lo and behold! No sooner is it back in stock than it's also back up to £7.99
I swear they do it because they know it works like the bait on an anglers hook - you log in and they hope that they've accurately targeted some "additional product offers" at you and they make a sale anyway. It's not like they've lost anything if you don't, either. For the stores it's a win/win unless they get caught breaking advertising or trading standards rules.

Argos quality has gone right downhill in recent years. Prices are no longer cheap and the website is painful to use. Amazon and Ebay knock them for six. Amazingly, however, Argos at the moment is actually growing fast for the first time in years, probably due to its new sameday-delivery strategy.

I've seen it happen quite a lot. Problem is that at the time of sending the email, there was probably limited stock. I've missed a couple of good deals because I didn't realise how little stock there was of the items on sale.
Problem then is, they will keep it advertised at that price for about a fortnight with no stock, just take it off the bloody website loldieseluser07 said:

Screwfix were out of stock but Argos had them, ordered and payed on line with minimal fuss and then collected from a local Sainsbury's. Literally could not have been easier and found it to be a pretty good buying experience.
Sprayer worked a dream but I did spill paint all over my patio. C O C K

If they're still in stock at a far flung store, it won't be removed from the site as it's still available to be bought by someone more local to said far flung store.
The click and collect feature works on live stock numbers, it's not unheard of for all of the stock of an item to be reserved by the time you get to it. In the instances of furbies etc, it's also not unheard of for members of the public to reserve every item and then re-sell the reservation numbers.
Reselling of items bought by staff, especially when done so using their staff discount, is a sackable offence. It's just not worth it.
