He's an ex rugby player who likes his dog, his garden, wine, holidays, sport.

Budget is up to £300.

We're stumped, so any good ideas appreciated.

As a side/amusing present for my dad (also into rugby, sport, & wine) I got him a jeroboam of red plus one of those 'bottle in a glass' glasses

& this

It was more as a table present for a sense of occasion, but we both enjoyed it.

Sat on a table with one of those 'bottle in a glass' things, it looked almost like a normal bottle & glass for a moment

Useful for the wine and the gardening! Plenty of other ideas on that website.

For my dad's 80th last year I took him to The Oval for a day of international ODI cricket. We had a blast - great day of sport for father and son, a very special day for us both.

Something similar but rugby themed would be my suggestion.

I'd go and find some hugely vicious red wine.

Big right bank type for me, but to suit his taste.

We've done the rugby tickets thing before.

The vinyard idea is a good one, but by the time weve paid for flights, hotel and tour it will be well over budget I think.

Any more ideas guys please?

How about a day out fishing / sailing / rally driving / clay pigeon shooting?

For my dads 60th we got him a days sailing. He could do as little or as much as he wanted. Some folk just sat doing nothing whereas he learned all the stuff about setting the sails, steering and navigation etc. Was a full day sailing about in the firth of clyde.

I've had an idea. What about a wine chiller, some personalised Dartington wine glasses and a nice bottle of wine? We could then get a little plaque engraved with his initials and birth date.

I prefer experience presents, but nothing so far seems to suit.
