Ok, someone must be able to help out this dimwit.

If I have a time of -122ms and one at -68ms, which one is 'slower'?

I have gone round and around trying to work this out and i'm afraid i'm done.

In case anyone gives a fk, it's setting an activation delay, and it isn't something that can be easily tested in real time.

Ta muchly.

-122ms as it'll be a longer delay

Are you creating a time machine?
A -ve delay is an advance isn't it?

Thats also an issue as i assumed a delay would be in the + ms range rather than - ms.

Its for someone who has a VCDS cable and is trying to delay how quick the auto lights activate as he is finding them coming on unnecessarily when he goes through dark spots, under bridges etc on the road.

The longest value he has found is 122ms (i think) which gives approx 0.1ms.

However, the factory setting on the car is -122ms.

So they come on a 10th of a second before the sensors notice it's got a bit dark. Hmmm, I think you may need the supernatural rubbish thread.

Faster than light. The Germans do have a sense of humour!

With that context then yes, 122ms is the slower (or longer) of the two times smile

From the sounds of that I reckon Siemens have their paws in the works somewhere!

May find the negative value allows for damping/anti double activation.

A negative delay violates causality, it is, as far as we know, unphysical; it's not just some canny German wheeze.

Here we go..

According to the bubble, value of 6 gives 0.06s delay (ignore the stored value)

When I've worked with VCDS on setting my timing a negative value can also mean a large advanced value. Kind of like a clock face showing 5 minutes to, or you could say 55 minutes past. Not sure if that helps in this case, try playing wit the figures to see.

Ok thanks, that kinda makes sense.

The sensor is thinking about putting the lights on proactively rather than reactively.

So if I understand this correctly, in advance its thinking 'it's getting darker so I'll switch them on if it doesn't brighten up quick enough', rather than, 'oh, it's got dark so I had better put them on.' ?
