Keith Bennett - will his body be found?
Discussion
It seems that there are people who are still searching Saddleworth Moor for his body.

They have found a shotgun, a shovel, there is a theory that the bodies were arranged in a certain pattern, and there seems to be a hand drawn map (by Hindley?) of the location.
Let's hope they find the little boy.

What an awful thought.
No doubt that man took a lot of uncovered evil to his grave though.
Brady, rather than Keith Bennett I assume! No doubt that man took a lot of uncovered evil to his grave though.
No one is going to miss All-round-Mr-Nice-Guy Ian Brady. True scum. It's just a pity he couldn't have languished in misery in prison for another few decades.

It's an interesting concept whether or not anyone is truly evil or whether forms of mental illness manifest in that way. But with him, I think evil is the only way to describe him.
I did wonder whether the police should keep looking for his body. Now the mother is dead, at what point is the search no longer in the public interest, or a worthy use of resources?
I'm not being callous, it's a tragic situation, but I was just struck that they are still looking for his body.

In as much as it's still an open case. I don't think that they are sending people out to randomly dig up the moors each week. They have no leads to follow other than his remains are somewhere on the moors. They aren't likely to either seeing as Brady is now dead - and didn't give up any info when he was alive.I'm not being callous, it's a tragic situation, but I was just struck that they are still looking for his body.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but this is a case that is quite ingrained in people's minds. Even 50 years later, Brady and Hindley are still reviled because of the nature of their crimes. Look at the outpouring of public opinion about Brady's death, by people who weren't even alive when the murders happened (myself included). With that in mind, I think it is in the public interest. I'm not being callous, it's a tragic situation, but I was just struck that they are still looking for his body.
It's a difficult subject really.
As said above, they will only realistically act if there is credible evidence - as opposed to combing the moor.
But it gets everything tied up, and gets Keith Bennet interred properly, which is the least he deserves as an innocent victim really - not to mention the remaining family (putting the public interest to one side for the moment).

I saw the documentary on him last night. I'm too young to remember anything from when it was in the news regularly (even in the 90's) so, although I knew a little about what they'd done, there was a lot I didn't know.
What struck me about what they showed last night was the 13 minute audio recording of the little girl being killed. How the hell can anyone who heard that ever get it out of their minds? That day in court must've been horrific.

Keith's brother Alan is still around and active on various social media sites:I'm not being callous, it's a tragic situation, but I was just struck that they are still looking for his body.

I live on the edge of Saddleworth Moor and once you are out of sight of the road or another landmark you are lost in a bleak, cold and wet wasteland. Unless the police get an absolute to the meter location for the body there is no chance of finding it. Any time or money spent searching at random will be wasted and only give false hope to the victims brother.
We're £11,000,000 and counting looking for Madeline McCann.
I'd like to think we could put something towards finding this poor wee man and give him a fitting burial. It would be closure to a crime that has been a scar on this nation from the day it was made public.
No child should ever be taken that way or be allowed to spend eternity unknown in a place as bleak as that moor. I look at my own little lad and it makes my blood chill thinking of what those two Godless b
ds did.

"I think that if he had been able to assist in its location it would have happened in the 1980s."
I'm all for the need for everybody to have a defence in court, but why did the solicitor felt it appropriate to put himself in front of the media and defend his evil dead client so publicly?

It's obviously terrible what happened to this young boy and all the victims but I don't understand the need to find the body. I'm assuming he admitted to killing him so we know he is deceased.
Is it just because I am not religious that I don't see the difference between a grave yard and the Moors?
I'm not trying to be disrespectful or inflammatory I just always wonder what the driver is to find the body?

Totally agree. There was an article on the news last night that the coroner was refusing to release Brady's body until he was sure the ashes were not going to be scattered on the moor. I don't know whether Brady has any living relatives but can't believe they'd be so insensitive as to want to scatter his remains where they knew the victims were, so assume this must be coming form Brady's Will and administered by the solicitor. Not sure if the courts have the power to overturn a Will, but would expect all efforts to be made before going public with it. Added to the above it seems he is trying to make a name for himself!
