PH isn't what it used to be. " It has degenerated into a place that attracts insecure, image obsessed metrosexuals who enjoy showing off their latest watch, shoe or clothing purchase".

Wiki said:
Metrosexual is a portmanteau of metropolitan and sexual, coined in 1994 describing a man (especially one living in an urban, post-industrial, capitalist culture) who is especially meticulous about his grooming and appearance, typically spending a significant amount of time and money on shopping as part of this. The neologism is popularly thought to describe heterosexual men who adopt fashions and lifestyles stereotypically associated with homosexual men.
Members of PH, would you consider yourselves to be metrosexual? If so, to what extent?
- Is your appearance important to you?
- Do you spend a lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?
- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?
- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?

Do you feel that incorporating the above into your lifestyle affects/impairs your ability as a car enthusiast?

Do 'true' car enthusiasts spend the minimum of time/effort/money in their appearance, instead putting all available funds into buying Super Unleaded and Snap-on tools?

Interested to hear your thoughts. smile

- Is your appearance important to you?

Very much so, nothing wrong with having a shave and dressing smart for work. First impressions count.

- Do you spend of lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?

Not a vast amount. You don't need to spend hundred to look good. Fit is more important.

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?

Yes, moisturise daily. And use a "hair product".

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?

Yes, molten brown please.

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?

Wouldn't go out without.

Do you feel that incorporating the above into your lifestyle affects/impairs your ability as a car enthusiast?

Strange question. No.

Do 'true' car enthusiasts spend the minimum of time/effort/money in their appearance, instead putting all available funds into buying Super Unleaded and Snap-on tools?

Possibly.

OK, I'll bite.

- Is your appearance important to you?
A bit, when on social events. I have a large collection of vintage clothes, as that's the social scene I'm into. It's all mint and very lovely. Otherwise, jeans and T-shirts for bumming around. I work from home, otherwise I suit up for work.

- Do you spend of lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?
No. I don't have a lot of time or money anyway.

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
No.

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?
No. Tesco basic minty shampoo is fine. I'm of the opinion that it's all basically the same.

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?
No. Mont Blanc when going out.

Do you feel that incorporating the above into your lifestyle affects/impairs your ability as a car enthusiast?
Ha ha ha ha. I think children/work impairs my ability as a car/bike enthusiast.

Do 'true' car enthusiasts spend the minimum of time/effort/money in their appearance, instead putting all available funds into buying Super Unleaded and Snap-on tools?

My classics don't run on unleaded. Kids/house take the funds, and I already have the tools I need!

ETA: More dinosaur than metrosexual.

Make of these answer what you will, I'll be honest.

- Is your appearance important to you?
Day to day, as long as the horrible bits are covered I'm happy. So not at all.

- Do you spend of lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?
No, no and no. Primark all the way, I can't stand the thought of spending more than a few quid on a T-shirt or a tenner on a pair of shoes.

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
Again, day to day no. As long as I don't stink I'm OK, any deodorant/anti perspirant will do.

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?
Yes, very perticular. Whatever is the cheapest.

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?
Day to day, no.

Obviously on a night out or a special occasion I can scrub up but for work (HGV driver) or lounging at home I really don't see the point.

I don't think your questions are relevant to the point you are raising tbh. All those could be answered yes and yet the responder would not be metrosexual. All those traits are rather those of an old fashioned gent.

Metrosexual is someone who follows fads and fashions rather than cultivating his personal style and sticking with that.

Is your appearance important to you?
not especially, but obviously i don't want to look like a tramp

- Do you spend a lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?
very little time, i will do smash and grab shopping for basics, walk into M&S and get a load of T shirts, pants, socks and jumpers in about 5 minutes about once a year. order 501s online as the fit is pretty static and i know what size i am

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
not at all, zero interest

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?
head and shoulders suits my skin and i don't have dandruff , so it obviously works, lol...

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?
underarm spray daily, eternity squirt whenever i think about it

Do you feel that incorporating the above into your lifestyle affects/impairs your ability as a car enthusiast?
not at all, i pay over the odds for wurth wipes as they are the best and actually smell quite nice and get the grub off my hands brilliantly

an observation i have made is those that are most obsessed about the trivialities of fashion/appearance have the least going on in their lives

No

- Is your appearance important to you?
To some extent yes.

- Do you spend a lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?
Not really no. I buy whatever is cheapish. Don't spend more just because of the brand, there comes a point where it's rather stupid spending that much on an item (i.e lets say £15 on a basic tshirt)

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
yes, but not if it's expensive. I prefer cheaper things and using them properly.

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?
shampoo, I prefer to use seperate shampoo/conditioners. i also put argan oil in my hair. makes curly hair look its best.
shower gel, original source mint (guys know why)
shaving, i use the cheap £1 gilette shaving foam, i dont shave often
lotion, any thin/fast absorbing stuff, I don't like oily ones as it makes skin look greasy, its even worse if you put it on and go do exercise

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?
Not much, but I do have about 2-3 which i might use now and then when going out. Don't wear one daily

Do you feel that incorporating the above into your lifestyle affects/impairs your ability as a car enthusiast?
No

Who cares. If someone says they're into cars then they're into them. You don't need to prove it to someone else by a certain level of financial or time based investment. There's more aspects to life then just cars. why would you want to look like a scuffy mess with bad hair and dry skin and hands? I don't have a routine but there are basic things you should do.

Yes with Mrs Toasty.

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
Yes, due to safety razor thread.

Yes, I like smellies.

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?
Yes, member of basenotes.net.

Ask me the same 20 years ago and the answers would be very different.

- Is your appearance important to you?

Not really, I strive for the lowest accepted level of appearance so I don't stand out as a slob, but I'm affectionately referred to as 'scruffy'.

- Do you spend a lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?

Almost none, my Wife buys a lot of my clothes, she says I'm very fussy, and I suppose I am, but not in a vain way, I just don't want to look like a dick in a pink polo shirt.

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?

Erm, again no, I do own 2 types of aftershave, and a single pot of hair wax, it looks good for about the first 10 days after I have my hair cut, for the 20-50 days after before it's done again, it's useless.

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?

Yes, i find a brand I like and I stick to it - but this is more about efficiency than anything else.

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?

No, but yes, truthfully, I cannot wear any form of deodorant, it does terrible things to my skin, so I have to make sure I start every day with a good shower and a quick spray of something, I'm not sure of the name but it looks like a plastic gold bar, it was a gift.

I'm not one of these trying too hard to be 'Manly' people, it's just never been me, well maybe between 14 and 20 I was a bit more Metrosexual, but it soon passed.

- Is your appearance important to you?
No, I wear combats and t-shirt most days (polo shirt if working) I judge clothes on how easy they are to move about or not get ripped when I'm doing stuff.

- Do you spend a lot of time or money shopping for clothes or shoes?
Only for sports.

- Are you interested in male grooming: moisturising, fancy shaving items, hair products etc?
I only found out men used moisturiser the other day when a female friend told me. I looked at her like she'd just spoken in Bulgarian.

- Perhaps you are particular about the products (shampoo, shower gel etc) you use?
I have Tesco Value soap. Is that too metrosexual? I only use it once a day. Or twice if taking the bins out. I have Tesco Value shampoo. If having a bath, I squirt some in the bathtub and hope for the best. (A bath is me lying in it for about 30 seconds then climbing out.)

- Are you interested in fragrance, do you wear one daily?
Only when I go out to cover any dodgy smells that I haven't noticed.

I can't be the only one who finds it a bit abrasive to compare one's clothes or pride in one's appearance to being gay?

Being gay is having a predilection for dick, regardless of the clothes you're wearing while doing it, no?

Ditto being gay for wanting to spend time with your girlfriend than out with your male friends on motorbikes at the weekend.
