Any chance someone can help a fellow PH'er out over in the UK?

Been trying to source a pair of replacement Oakley lenses, Gray and VR28, for my Oakley M Frame 3.0 ballistics but it turns out they're unavailable in the UK.

Only $40 a piece in the US but I can't find a single reputable importer in the UK, and I've heard there are fakes on eBay.

Would anyone be so kind as to purchase the frames and ship them to me please? I'd obviously cover the costs upfront and a few drinks for the effort.

No idea when I'm next heading over there myself or I'd wait but unfortunately my existing lenses have seen much better days.

Posted in the US & Canada section too but I don't think that part of the site sees many visitors judging by how old some of the posts are.

It may be worth looking at https://www.shipito.com/en/ - I've used them in the past for some stuff, but works better for combining a number of small packages into one.

Try Tweeting @oakley or their facebook page? They may be able to ship directly and I have heard their customer service is very good.

Have you tried contacting Oakley themselves in the UK.

I've had them replace lenses and frames for me in the past (UK product admittedly) and their service has been brilliant.

Their customer service is fantastic id ask them.

I had a pair of e wires for my 18th birthday pressie from my sister 15 or so years later the lenses have crazed a little so spoke to oakley. Due to the age they no longer hold stock for the glasses so offered me a discounted (as in £45 for metal oakleys discounted) pair if i sent the e wites back to them. Asked then if any way of repairing and explained a landmark birthday present, they still couldnt repair them after another look but advised me to keep the glasses and they would still sell me a discounted pair.

Cant say better than that, they are the company i try to mimic with mine for customer service.

Hmmm. That looks interesting.

Someone is already taking a look for me thankfully but I'll wait and see what he says first.

Did try Oakley direct but it turns out that they're not allowed to export them from the US and nor are any businesses, and unfortunately they're not sold in the UK.

However, it was Oakley themselves that suggested trying to find someone in the US to buy them and ship them to the UK.

They're ballistic lenses so that probably has something to do with it.

If it is a product that is formally banned from export then it may not be best to ask a fellow PHer to break the law for you. I know it's unlikely they would get caught (no idea on penalties) but maybe best to stick to a professional service?

How about Canada - do they allow export?

Well Oakley UK just said businesses weren't allowed to export them, not consumers.

I'm not that overly familiar with that sort of thing though to be fair.

Ahh.. I just wonder if they are a military restriction.

Possibly, yes. However, as I'm only after two lenses and not an order for 50,000 of them hopefully it shouldn't be a problem.

More likely to be a licensing / distribution issue I'd have thought?

If they're freely available for the public to buy in the US, then they won't come under ITAR restrictions. Therefore personal exporting is fine.

I've just done a basic calculation on a parcel weighing 0.5 kg with a value of $80. Total delivery came to $47.

Looks useful but postage isn't cheap.
