Out camping with my son this weekend in Wales and am staying in a beautiful place near the cost. Loads of things have rubbed my up the wrong way about my fellow tourists:

- on our camp site a 'Mrs & Mrs' were in a tent next door with two dogs and young son who kept crying and shouting since 0600 in the morning and woke us up, very little attempt to keep the little scamp quiet in consideration of other campers (in fairness their dogs were well behaved)
- having breakfast at a nearby beach and people turn-up in vans at 0800 with music pumping away
- family with four kids turn up and create mayhem for 30 mins before going off
- a joker has now turned up and is watching a match on his mobile without headphones sharing the noise with us

This a beautiful part of the world, I want to enjoy being here but people like this just ruin it. Am I misanthropic and should I just accept this stuff as normal?

Misanthropic - Yes
Accept - No
By contrast we spent a very pleasant day at Hampton Court Flower Show this week.
Zero loud and obnoxious behaviour and also very few tattoo's visible, which also made for a relaxing experience.

Sadly the big brother-facebook society seems to have no shame or am I just getting old.

People are now far ruder and less considerate.

If anyone answers their phone while I'm talking to them I'll just walk away.

How young was their son? Very little ones tend to cry and wail no matter what strata of society they're from if the mood takes them.

I blame Perdio, the first (probably) really small portable transistor radio in the late fifties. Downhill from there I'm afraid.

Society is dumbing down to the lowest common denominator.
The roll models of the younger generation, don't seem to live by the rules I'm bringing my kids with.

Indeed. Free and not requiring any mental effort (i.e. not cultural events) = more chavs - the exception being London where it costs a fair bit to travel in from outside but then you're faced with the rudest and most annoying tourists on the planet ..

I can't imagine what it's like requiring minimal visible tattoos in order to relax.

Unsettling, perhaps.

We used to wild camp on a beach quite often and it was the same, loud music etc. We just accepted it was part of the deal. Our motorhome was quite well insulated noise wise so once the windows were shut it was not too bad at night. Most people would play music from around 10am onwards till maybe 1am.

The only time there was any bother was when some local kids turned up to joy ride their dads car and a few of the older campers were clearly intimidated. It was entertainment for me. Especially when they got it stuck for half an hour as the tide started to come in.

Maybe he was trying to chill out in a nice setting but had it ruined with some noisy bellends that only think about what affects them? smile

Personally I find a lot of the general public to be annoying bds but I do acknowledge that I need to calm down and be more tolerant of others yes

I personally find tattoo's to be form of graffiti and at many social gatherings they are very prevalent. Now I know that increasingly I'm in a minority, but I wish that they had never become fashionable. Attending other events such as Hampton Court highlight the decline. Conversely I'm into hot-rods and customs and can appreciate the biker scene where tattoos are intrinsic to the lifestyle. I just regret that they are so commonplace and what was a niche and individual style is now boringly predictable and associated with chav behavior. HTH
