In town, empty shops often have circus, night club posters etc inside their windows

How do they get them inside, is it the small circus elves and chimneys or something?

End of question

There are clowns trapped inside the shops wondering how you got out.

Funny you should say that. I was only thinking the same thing yesterday when I walked past empty BHS in Darlington.

Empty high-street facilities are often owned by holding and investment companies. They run periodic maintenance and try to keep these places in good nick, just in case a potential renter shows up and asks for a viewing. In other words, the cleaning person shows up once a month for a quick dust-off and sweep, and that's probably when 'the magic' of hanging an event flyer happens.

In my town of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, it was easy to spot the longest standing closed shops by the dates on these flyers (circus and monster trucks in our case), as they were not even being serviced anymore. Just another symptom of the disappearing UK high-street, now either deserted or filled with charity shops, Betfred's and caffes.

Reminds me of the old joke. Sign in an empty shop window saying Bill stickers will be prosecuted. Underneath somebody had written Bill Stickers is innocent.
