I recently decided to hang my TV on the wall which left me woth a superfluous A/V stand that was still in very good condition so I assumed I could get a couple of quid for it.

Here it is:

I understand it wont be to everyones taste but for £30 including local delivery I thought it would get snapped up on Gumtree. Not a single bite! Not even an offer.

Fair enough. I took it to a local charity shop instead thinking they would be grateful for it, this is a very sturdy thing, it could hold Any TV and associated equipment.

To my amazement, they looked it over and spotted a little scuff mark where the original TV had sat, and told me they didnt want it as no one would by something with a 'scratch' on it..from a charity shop!!

I ended up taking it to the tip and asked the guy there if he wanted to put it aside as it seemed too good to chuck out. "No mate, chuck it in the household waste skip"

Cool story, eh?..

You should have put it up on eBay with a 99p starting price at the very least.

£30 for that?! Charity shops don't like large stuff as it take up a lot of space (they price large kids stuff cheap for this reason)

I use freecycle for this kind of stuff. It means giving it away for free, but stuff is usually gone within a couple of days.

The interesting thing i've noticed, is that most of the users are decidedly "middle class". It seems that the poorest people prefer to buy new from Argos...

I just take things to the tip. I'm quite happy to give it free to anyone who wants it once there. Last time it was an unused set of golf bats and a superfluous 21" LCD monitor.

I don't want to be flogging stuff from my own front door. Even less giving it away there.

Should have put it up on Freecycle or a local FB group saying it's free.

Most things go on gumtree at the right price. 30 quid is too much. A tenner and you'd have shifted it.

Of course it's not 'worth' doing for a tenner but my view is I just want someone to keep using the stuff so it doesn't end up in landfill. So if I have to practically give it away, so be it. Better than having to take it to the tip.

I have good reports of Freecycle from others but it depends on where you are I think. The group local to me is not very good for some reason.

This. Many towns have a buy/sell Facebook page, just set price to free and buyer to collect. Probably gone inside 4 hours.

Just put it on a local Facebook for sale group with a nominal price eg £10. Someone will barter you down to £2.50 thinking they got a good deal.

This. I can't believe the crap people will take away for free. Random old bricks and paving slabs haul them to the tip or have several people within minutes wanting them.

Couldn't you have stuck an old bald tyre on it and put it up for sale on PH, some mug would have given you a fortune for it.

That's my take on not as well. I'd rather give it away than tip it.

Freestyle is fine, but expect a lot of people to ask if you'll deliver!
