Hello

Long time since I've been on here! But I thought everyone has always been useful in the past so I'd give it a go.

I have a property that I rent out. So I fill in a tax return for this.

I also have a company car (get so much deducted per month for this off my salary for it). All tax...so I thought was dealt with through the company Payroll. So I didn't put the car down on the tax return form for as I already pay the tax.

I've now had a letter for my 2014 tax return saying I own them £900 for my car as it's seen as a type of benefit.

Any clues what to do? Should I have declared it, if so I'll just pay the bill. Or is it as I thought and all sorted through payroll?

Thanks!

Check your last notice of coding. That should have accounted for the company car benefit.

Sorry but what is the notice of coding? Is this the letter about my tax code?

I have car benefit on there - so looks like I'm ok then?

First mistake. Your return should confirm what you have already had deducted via tax code. Tax code is merely an estimate of what your return should declare. Eric will be along soon biggrin

What does the "All tax..." bit mean? Did you leave off your salary too? After all, that's already taxed!

Sounds like you might have some sort of non-standard car scheme. If you don't know how it works then suggest you get HR or Finance to explain it to you.
