Lately I've been really bored when I'm not at work. Not a lot going on in the evenings and pretty tired by then too. I've been thinking about hobbies and things that I'd like to do and a recurring thought is that I'd love to build a Soap Box racer and race it in the Red Bull Soap Box Race. I live in a flat though and have nowhere to actually build it; and although I think I could do it; my skills are probably pretty limited.

Do any of you have any projects/pipe dreams that you'd love to do but have never got round to, for whatever reason? Please share here...

At some point I'd love to do a VW Transporter camper conversion. I've spent hours researching it on the internet. The trouble is we don't have the money to do it (properly) at the moment, nor space to keep one.

Plus I suspect my practical abilities are not as good as I'd like to think

Two for me: full-size (or cocktail cabinet) arcade machine with a raspberry pi running retropie. And then I go mad and think 'I could build something beautiful like this' before reality kicks in ... http://www.lovehulten.com/rkaidr.html

And the other is send a go-pro and a picture of my fat face on a rocket up into space. A bit like this, but not with a meat and potato pie ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ocb7pQKUcJ0

I keep meaning to get round to buying an old Caterham and learn how to do lots of simple jobs and have a bit of fun.

Never seem to have the money, time and space at the same time...

I hope the joystick unscrews, or that won't close!

It does. And then it screws in in a different place to lock the halves together, and becomes the carrying handle. It's quite good TM.

It also costs £2.5k, which is why I think it would be a good thing to do myself laugh

Starting them is a doddle, it's the finishing part I struggle with.

I've been planning to 'convert' my garage into a workshop since we moved in, which wasn't that big a job - run some power out there, get rid of the junk - it's still full of junk - power provided by running a long extention lead from the kitchen.

Took me 9 years to do that, it wouldv'e taken dozens of trips to the recylcling centre. Ended up hiring a skip in the end. Took me 5 hours!

Two projects that haven't been started yet and been on hold for years. Currently sat next to each other in a barn gathering dust - a 1966 Fiat 500 with an Alfa 33 16v engine in a crate next to it waiting to be fitted, and a Rover BRM with a 2l Honda engine doing likewise. Have a young family so simply have no time.

I've got two houses I'm doing up which has involved plenty of mini projects, and an old car to turn into a track weapon, so I've got my hands full.

But what I'd really like to do, is buy an old tracked mini digger or crawler tractor and turn it into a 1/4 scale tank for the kids to dick about it in. For the kids, yeah right! laugh

I really want to buy a '55 GMC Sceniccruiser

and retro-mod it into a world-tourer and go off around the world.

Never gonna happen living in the UK unfortunately.

Model railway

I look at all the bits i've collected up and think maybe i should just get on and build something rather than constantly changing my mind about what I want it to do.

Proper routed slot car track (see above)

I also fancy converting one of my pushbikes to an electric bike, not sure i can justify the costs for something that may just become a garage dust gatherer.

Always wanted to do a mk2 Fiesta, resto-mod, nothing too extreme looking just a bit lower on banded steels with modern suspension/brakes and a 2l zetec lump on throttle bodies, keep the interior standard, but wifey won't let me, something about not having enough pocket money apparently! frown

I'd also like to do something similar, but with a Mk4 Escort RS.

Trouble is I reckon with the rate old Ford prices are skyrocketing I'll never be able to save fast enough to get one biglaugh

This, but it would be a Mercedes V280 for me.

I'm confident I could do it and I've drawn up all the plans and schemes. Having other directions for my money and nowhere to put it has stopped me so far. One day.

Also, I have never welded, so I should probably learn that before buying a Vito/V-Class hehe
