If you bought 10 items from the same seller (small paper items, they can all fit in one envelope) who refuses to combine postage costs... And they then send all 10 items in a single envelope... Would it be wrong to claim back 9 sets of postage from eBay/PayPal?

Depends on the cost of postage. I fear I may just get on with my life instead.

I've always accepted that the P&P incorporates some of the seller's profit, and that if they accept a reduction all well and good. I think eBay would say that so long as the item arrives in time it's up to the seller how to send it.

Is it even possible to do this ?

Unless I was buying unobtanium from the seller ,I'd buy from someone else.

Some sellers might refund if the items can fit inside less packaging than anticipated

I think profiting so much from postage is something ebay frowns upon, so there might be grounds for a dispute

I'd claim it back. Each listing takes into account the cost of sending them individually, so putting 10 in the same envelope is definitely taking the mick somewhat.

I don't know if it's possible to open a case but you could always try and see what the outcome will be. I always asked if sellers do combined postage. If they refused to give combined or reduced postage, I pay for them separately or a day/two later since they get charged per transaction on paypal. During checkout, you have the option to pay for items separately rather than in one go be it from the same or different seller. You have up to 48hrs for payment upon invoice before a seller can open an unpaid case. The only option is to give a 1 rating on postage+packaging and negative feedback for all your purchase. Sellers can't leave negative feedback although they can ask ebay to remove if the comments are offensive/threatening/retaliatory.

It's been a while since I last sold something on ebay wasn't there like a 20p paypal charge per transaction?

I buy and sell a fair bit on Ebay and I'd say leave some negative feedback for him. I go out of my way to reduce postage costs for my buyers and on occasion have taken a hit. If the seller is acting like a penis, let everyone else know with some negative feedback.
