Apologies for the question which is probably more suited to mumsnet.

Long story short; woman at work is leaving, collection was held and in the absence of any other ideas it was decided that a shopping voucher should be purchased - she likes clothes, shoes etc.

As I'm at a meeting in London tomorrow, I've been given the cash (£200) and asked to sort something out.

Any idea what is best to go for? Don't want to do a "single shop" thing in case she doesn't like their stuff so was thinking a department store?

Can think of Debenhams, John Lewis and Frasers from the top of my head. Any others?

Cheers for the replies, looking at the map its Selfridges or JL at the moment as I'm not planning to go via Kensington.

Know Selfridges includes loads of different designers/outlets - is the same true for John Lewis?

You can buy an Arcadia gift card from Tesco that can be redeemed in Topshop/Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Burton, Evans, and Wallis.

A branded gift card from one of those brands can be used in any of the other stores too. Depending on the age or shopping preference of the individual it may be advantageous to get a branded card.

I only know this as a friend bought me a Topman gift card a couple of years back but decided to load the money on a Dorothy Perkins gift card. Considerate.

Is the correct answer. Or Selfridges as mentioned above.

If she generally likes higher end and can get to one of their shops, go with Selfridges. JL is great for other stuff but has always struggled a bit to make their clothing department appealing to the fashion conscious. But if she doesn't seem into expensive handbags then JL will probably be fine

Just be careful not to buy a £200 one or you'll be stung at least £10 in fees! Or buy it to the value of £190 then including the fees it'll take it up to £200.

Never got the point of vouchers that you can only spend in one place. Why not just give her the £200 in cash so she can spend it where she likes???

I'm sure the big shopping centres like bluewater, westfield etc. do vouchers that can be used in any of the shops in the centre.

The Post Office gift cards can be used in tons of places. Inc John Lewis and Amazon for example.
