Hello.

Purchased a brand new goat leather bag on eBay from India, about 3 weeks ago.

It has been 'oiled', probably with sunflower oil, and that could be contributing to, in my opinion, a very foul smell.

I was hoping that the odour would have evpaorated away, but it remains pungent.

Any idea what's causing it, and how to remove it?

Look inside
Remove the paper wrapped chocolates
They are not chocolates

You could try opening the bag up. Securing it open (not sure how) and putting a small bowl or depending on space a cup or beaker with some brown vinegar in. The vinegar is good at absorbing smells

I hear loaves of bread are good for soaking up smells. And it won't leave the bag smelling like vinegar.

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda in the bag and leave it there for a few days.

It can take weeks for the smell to go.

Well there are at least three possible things I can think might point towards the answer.

ETA

Is it a 'musical goat bag'?

OP, what do you mean, you haven't got access to a limitless supply of ozone gas?

I've just Googled 'Goat leather bag smell'; the problem seems to be more prevalent than you'd imagine.

Nope.

This goat used to be somebodies girlfriend and has been oiled internally with something quite different.

Haven't Googled it but there might tbe a product called "Jizzaway" or something on Amazon.

You also need to ask, "why don't they use goat leather more?"...

Serious answer - fill it with kitty litter. That stuff absorbs all sorts of odours. Dust with bicarb of soda, and I guess if you wanted to add a scent to it, talcum powder.

I daren't google smelly goat sacks, probably end up on urban dictionary, no doubt a sexual act involving goats, scat and blowfly larvae.
