I spoke to a friend about some worries I had. He got back to me saying something like: I'm honoured that you felt you could confide in me and I am glad that you did'

Why did he use the word 'honoured'? I'm still unsure what 'honour' I could have conferred on him just by confiding in him. What does 'honoured' mean in this context?

(I struggle mildly to interpret things like this correctly on my own at times!)

Also - would you say that this person sounds like a good friend?

He is pleased (honoured) that you chose to share your worries with him - that you are close enough to each other to do that

Are you building a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude?
Do you forge your spirit in the tradition of your ancestors?
Do we have your gratitude?

They do say 'if you lend someone you know £20 and never see them again, it is money well-spent'. You can test that out on your honourable friend.

Thanks for your responses everyone!

I just thought that I should have introduced myself more in my first post!

I have always had a strong interest in cars from a very young age, as I have always been very close to my Grandad who is a second hand car dealer. He repaired cars too in his day, but he's knocking on 80 now (still going with his cars!), so I have had the great privilege of learning how to repair cars from him!

I like it here, but plenty don't!

Most people sign up for the car chat, not to ask about niceties regarding friendly accolades laugh

It's an Americanism. Your pal OP probably picked it up from US TV, unless he is of course of the American persuasion.
