see this thread as just one example of a poster doing it:

people sign off there post with

Cheers
Bob Scroggins

or whatever.

Why. Whats the mindset or psyche behind it. Do they feel the need to be thankful they are allowed to post?

Some people just need books on etiquette/finishing schools support to appear non-weird. They don't mean anything by it.

Pull up a chair and I'll tell you the tale of the moose.

Some say on a cold and dark night you can hear the words Cheers, the Moose carried on the air....

I've often thought this, I think it's an age thing as the older types probably think they're writing a letter, or think no one will know who the post has come from despite everyone's names being in the top left of each post. The one's that buck the trend though are those who sign off with their real name or one different to their PH login name - I don't know about those.

I've often wondered this and personally I find it very strange.

There's a bloke on another forum that I frequent who signs off every single post with "Good Luck!"

Bit strange but harmless enough.

I thought it may be the other way, young sorts trying to start a brand as the first step to becoming the next Jason Dawe.

Fondest wishes

Maybe we should chastise those who don't sign off, and just leave things cold and impolite? Maybe more of us should make the effort to sign our posts off pleasantly.

All the best,

When I first started using forums back in the early 00s I used to sign off my posts. They were small communities and everyone did it and you got to know peoples real names as often the forum name was a bit random.

My early posts on here are probably like that as well.

A subject of much (perceived) mirth, merriment and mischief, both on and off air, at times.

More to the point, why did The Moose stop? Were there tears, The Moose? Or did you simply run out of ideas, The Moose?

Perhaps we could discuss this further over a few beers, The Moose?
