My Merc CLS "sold" on Ebay,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132336187075?ssPageName=...

For some reason I had a buy it now button on the ad, had a few inquiries, then I get a message that someone called Nelson had bought it, feedback of 30, then no contact, So I send a coupel of emails askign when he is collecting, and also that if he bougth it in error, please let me know, I reckon that on a five grand item you contact straight away,

Then I get this,

"Hi, I just made the payment for the vehicle and it said that the freight is free when the driver sends it. Now I have contacted him because I was working and it was not possible to contact him sooner."

And a message saying he has made payment, the email is weird, the ad doesnt say I will freight it, I dont know where he is, seems pretty scammy to me !

"Order status: Paid
Paid £5,250.00 with MO_CASHIERS on 23 Sep, 2017 23:49 BST

When he "bought" it I emailed to say its cash on collection, please dont use PayPal as it will cost me a fortune, I think "MO" means money orders, this just all seems very very dodgy, advice please !

I am not refunding him is it lands, its not in my PayPal yet or freighting the car anywhere, just need to be sure as to what to do so as not to cause myself problems.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.... it’s orobabky a duck.

Smells scammy scammy to me. Relist the car, ignore all contact. Don’t put a BIN on it. List it as a classified advert on eBay.

Cheers, didnt realise I had put a Buy It Now on it.

Does seem very very scammy, the language in his message, people who buy old Mercs generally ask some questions, just wondering what how he thinks he will scam me ?

It says I have been paid, nothing in my Paypal account as yet, what are the actual mechanics, I am being cautious here as dont want to miss step, obviously the car is easy to do as its not going anywhere, just need to be 100 percent about the PayPal aspect.

I was actually looking at that on eBay and saved it in my watch list.
Was planning on doing some research, power, extras, tax, common problems, fuel economy etc etc but then totally forgot.
If you don’t sell it to this Nelson chap then drop me a pm.

the scam usually is he sends a fake paypal Link (or similar) that you click that shows you being paid. Raise a cancellation request as you will end up paying fees and relist. make sure you add him to blocked list.

Nice car bTW a lot of car for little money.

NP, wasnt touting by the way !

The common issues are the cam chains, but I checked before I bought and bought this with an engine number after, air suspension is a potential pitfall, but its had a new pump and all working fine. The engines leak oil onto the manifold so some stink of oil, and the V6 version, cheap easy fix i have already done.

Power 388 bhp, it goes like the clappers for a big bus, so torquey, it will hustle but its by no means a sports car.

Mine is not a fully optioned car, it missed out of the Harmon Kardon, it doesnt have Xenons or memory seats but it is so cheap, you have to price stuff to sell and if you find another that has those bits, it will perhaps be 8 grand, not sure where you would find another car with nigh on 400 bhp for the money, every other car with that magnificent engine is 15 grand or more, CL's etc

Fuel economy, er, well its a 5.5 litre V8 so its not a massive surprise it isnt very economical, around town its high teens/20, it will do a genuine 30 on a run if careful, if you hoof it, it wont ! its also the top rate VED, £46.50 a month.

Its fair to say "Nelson" wont be having the car, he is a scammer and has now gone quiet, I am just wondering if there is any way he can claim a refund but I dont for one minute think he has transferred a penny, 30 feedback on a fairly new account for low value items, no address, no questions like the ones you have asked, just hits the BIN button I stupidly had on the ad, real buyers ask questions, come to see the car and generally want to get the best car for the least money.

I am not out to scam anyone, would be totally happy to sell that car to anyone I know or dont, I am a bit of an open book, I would be wealthier if I wasnt I expect.

Cheers Jas, got someone looking at it hopefully tomorrow who seems keen and knowledgeable.

Replacement will be smaller, I know it wont be popular but probably a TT, cant spend any more than I get for mine currently as mentioned, Uni fees and an extension due to be built, but am open to suggestions up to a max of six grand, will be for a couple of years until all that is finished, plus, I like TT's, possibly a V6/225 with a few tweaks. I know they arent regarded as the ultimate drivers car, but I am not the ultimate driver biggrin and its one of those unscratched itches.

Buyer turned up with the full (very reasonable" asking price, unfortunately he had problems fitting in, he was a larger chap, dont mean to be rude about him at all, just a fact, he was as disappointed as I was, must have been embarrassing for him.

Other interested parties, car is well priced, just a lot of agro to sell on with scammers and the fuller figured gentleman conspiring to thwart my plans to let someone else enjoy it !
