Anyone ever had a TV switch itself on?
Discussion
Got woken up this morning by my bedroom TV switching itself on at 6:45. TV's gets kept on standby so not totally switched off. This was a 7 year old Panasonic TV but last year a Samsung TV in the living room did the same thing in the middle of the night with the volume full blast twice. I was seriously ill in hospital at the time so totally freaked my wife out. It's a new build house and apart from hearing a breakfast bar stool getting dragged along the floor one night and my wife screaming about an old guy standing next to the bed every few months I don't get any bad feelings about the house.
Happened occasionally at my dad's, however lots of weird s
t happened there; pictures moved, lights came on, my bedroom in the new extension was always the coldest room in the house (no matter how high the heating was), the shower in the en-suite in the extension used to turn itself on, the dog would refuse to go upstairs, sometimes you could feel a presence!

It was always in the Autumn and always in the afternoon when the Sun was shining on the front of the TV.
It was eventually discovered that the infra red " noise " in the sunlight was exactly same as the infra red " noise " generated by the remote OFF button.
Could easily work the other way so it could be what's switching TVs on from standby...

If you look on historic maps you will see that your house is built on top on an ancient indian burial ground.
Burn a priest to be on the safe side.

say what?Yes all the time. We have a Toshiba smart tv in the master bedroom that’s been demoted from the lounge and if it connects to the WiFi it then sets its own clock and then randomly turns on and off throughout any 24hr period ... only way to stop it is to keep it ‘dumb’ and disconnected from the internet - very odd it is
It could be anything from a faulty internal power supply (the capacitors degrade over time, causing voltage variations) bad software in the controller, a "dry" solder joint on the printed circuit board... Pretty much anything but ghosts.
It sounds like the TV cools down at night and breaks a connection, either solder or one internal to a chip, causing it to lose settings and reboot. Hence turning on and whacking the volume up.
