Mods - can you leave this here for the moment please.

Does anyone know for absolute sure where there is a UK residency requirement to gain Security Check level SC?

I have an Irish national who has never lived in the UK that I have put forward for this process. Sponsorship is being driven by a third party so I have nobody I can directly ask.

Thanks.

Believe you have to be domiciled in the UK for 2 years. That was the rule a few years back, not completely up to speed on latest.

That is indeed the case - 2 years. In fact cannot even do disclosure Scotland if less than a year

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Can't beat a bit of ambiguity. The gov link makes no mention of residency requirements and the FCO link mentions a "reasonable period of residency" but under the Vetting section which suggest it applies to higher level of clearance. Maybe.

Based on other responses though, it does look like there is a residency requirement.

AFAIK there isn't, we have people based overseas that are SC/DV cleared.

Try calling the UKSV Hotline - 01904 662644. Can’t guarantee how helpful they’ll be but it’s a start.

We had a bit of trouble some years back with a dual passport holding Brit / Canadian applying for SC.

May also be worth checking his passport issuing country.

Normally its 5 years for SC and 10 years for DV, but this can be waived if they have equivalent clearance from a trusted ally. For example UK clearance will be accepted by the Ozzies, but only provided the sponsor accepts via a waiver.
