For those of you in a long term relationship, where you're spending a lot of time together. What do you talk about in the evenings?

It doesn't take long to exhaust how your day was, plans for the weekend etc.

Does your wife really want to hear about your hobbies after a couple of years?

Well, I never discuss work for a start, apart from that anything goes, I've found that after nearly 31 years I have become a good listener.

I think you've got this somewhat wrong.

Your wife didn't want to hear about your hobbies after a couple of days. You are supposed to listen to the interesting events in her life - what happened to a neighbour/friend/friend of a friend/someone on the TV/Facebook, why she did the washing today but might do some more tomorrow, she has some ironing to do, her best friend looked at her in a 'funny' way and she's now plotting her revenge, do you like her new lipstick/dress/shoes/bags/earrings/jacket/scarf - and if not why not......... etc etc for about another 50 years

Do you better understand now ?

We watch Coronation St, as we have done for over 30 years, and then moan about how bad it's got and discuss if we should give up on it. It's the glue that holds our marriage together.

Domestic line management mandates that conversations are mainly around my failings and how I should correct them, or about funny animals stories/videos, or about her friends who are all either mad or boring.

I'm amazed I'm still alive.

I'm lucky enough that my wife has a huge interest in cars. We spend a lot of time talking about cars, fitness, food and watching TV

16 years in and I’ve had to promise not to talk unless strictly necessary. ... the only advantages to this are that I have more time to plan my next harebrained schemes, and am bored enough to actually try them lol

According to the youngest step daughter "Total poo"

Her day, my day, the kids, gossip about the neighbours, movies and tv shows she hasn't ever seen somehow and how crazy our respective mothers are (that used to be a competition but her mother won it hands down in the first 6 months and it's not even been a close thing since).

Anything relating to life goals, our respective businesses (fortunately, they're not too dissimilar so both passionately interested in the development of each other's business), philosophical ideas, news topics. Sometimes, it gets a bit heated. If we ever fall out, it'd be over something like a disagreement over the best technique for helping someone to quit smoking or manage their anger. wobble

Well, tonight so far (a typical evening) her Mum, her Sister, younger daughter’s session at the maths tutor, passport renewals, my Mum, older daughter and how she’s getting on in her first term at Uni, younger daughter’s internet usage, The Twilight Zone, her night out tomorrow, the Euro and Brexit, economic tariffs and consequences, older daughter’s birthday present for next month, the pros and cons of buying a student let in older daughter’s University town, Theresa May and Brexit, Angela Merkel, Gordon Ramsey and the cocaine trade; typical night really, we just share thoughts, been together 27 years.
