Circumstances have turned rather rubbish, rather quickly.

In a nutshell, cancer.

The (hopefully) to be FIL has taken a turn for the worse, nurses today said days not weeks and after what I saw this evening they aren’t taking a stab in the dark.

So, lady Bikesalot is a ridiculously small ring size, F. What’s the chances of getting something very decent by Saturday, even if it’s a placeholder...it has to be something that is close to what I want to get though, if possible.

I had plans for beginning of the November but sometimes live throws you a curve ball...

All suggestions taken on board!

Thanks.

Thanks for the advice.

I understand your comments regarding the right time, I know for a fact her dad would love to see her engaged (and her) even at this time, he told me quite firmly...hah.

Could you get to shepperton in Surrey ? I went to jewellers called samara james. They gave me a silver and zirconium replica of what I was thinking of buying for a 50 quid returnable deposit. I gave it to swmbo saying this is what I would have chosen if I had to choose myself. Ended up buying elsewhere in the end but she loved the fact that I had thought about it myself but eventually she also got to choose what she wanted. Received the 50 back by simply sending back in a post. I think it's appointment only so call first.

There's a chain of places (they often sell at airports, realise that's no immediate help but someone else may be able to remember the name) and they sell fairly convincing - at a glance - engagement-type rings for about £25. That sort of thing would be prefect for this occasion and then when you have time you can go and get the real thing without having to rush.

Alternatively there is a guy on here called Eddie, username ecain or maybe ecain63, who is a jeweller and he may be able to help. In fact there were two but I don't know whether the other one is still around. The Watches sub forum will help wth this if you want to go the route of the real ring quickly.

Good luck, and v sorry for your circumstances.

I think the other one was Nightmare - although it looks like he's not posted for a couple of months (there is a link to a website in his profile though).

His shop (Equinox) is based in Hoddesdon so in the right area.

Very nice chap, great service. I used him for my wife's engagement ring and subsequently our wedding rings.

Is his name Howard? I'd hate to phone the shop and ask for a nightmare...rotate

I plan to get her a cheap one that can be worn daily owing to her line of work, with another, proper one that we'll design together for special occasions.

I'd just look at a local high street jeweller?

He won't be in the shop. Call and ask for Paul. He is the head honcho.

Very nice bloke. Popped down there after getting a ring 2 sizes too big for the fiance custom made from him and he did it in an hour.

Update to close the thread.

After the formalities of death, Christmas was tough but last week the girlfriend and I managed to escape for some sunshine.

She returned my Fiance!
