As a flip side to this thread - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

A few, to get the ball rolling.

You can take the moral high-ground on what constitutes good music with the youth of today. Even they disagree with you, they're wrong.

You can get insured on virtually any car which takes your fancy.

You don't have to justify the wearing of slippers.

If you forget something a quick 'I'm sorry, my memory isn't what it once was' shall give you a get out of jail card.

If you drive a 90's car, use a 2000's mobile, the 'kids' will probably think you're 'retro cool'. The reality is that you haven't got with the times and are simply sticking to what you like.

You get the idea boys and gals. Crack on.

I very much enjoyed telling my son how much it cost me to insure my 3 year-old Golf GTI.

Usually wealthier than the younger-you, unless divorce.

That is all.

I get that! At the local tip last week chatting to a very pleasant 17 year old lad working there. He was bemoaning how his £500 Micra is costing him £2800 to insure, with a black box. His chin nearly hit the floor when I told him how at 36 I insured a (remapped) 280 odd bhp Focus ST for £440 fully comp.

I find it easier to list the disadvantages: ever-looming death, wearing glasses, thinking beige is a good shade to wear, it being months or years since your last gob-job rather than days.

hehe

I’d rather pay through the nose for car insurance than fail to maintain an erection.

Ah, but this was citing me nearly 5 years ago, I'm now 40 and a half.... being all Adrian Mole there!

40 is officially well on the way towards old fart.

The little blue pill is your friend, just don't admit as much to the lady who you accompany!

69 and it wasn't a bad position to be in. Can't say that any more.

I heard on the radio this morning that 70 is the new 40. Suits me.

I can do the latter & cough up £200 for the former & you still have to make it this far.

I’m 46 and probably the best I’ve ever been. Confident, experienced in a professional sense and able to earn as much as I probably ever will without the guilt of working terribly hard to do it. I know what makes me happy and how to avoid what doesn’t.

I suspect my generation will have a much easier old age than those currently in their 20s and 30s. I certainly wouldn’t want to do it again. Growing up in the 80s was fantastic and we didn’t need a phone to help us choose who to have a relationship with.

Although I'm just shy of 30. The benefits I find are as said insurance, albeit a trade policy is no hassle, having kids young meant my sleepless nights were in my very early twenties, I have a job I enjoy and earning enough so the wife doesn't have to work and we live comfortably. With the kids in school she's turned into a gym bunny with a banging body and energy to match. As said before I drive an older car young lads seem to adore. I actually look forward to getting older. But the single most important benefit to me is once the wife and kids are happy I honestly couldn't give a flying feck what anyone thinks

One downside though is it gets messier.
