amazon- trust them to not sell fakes?
Discussion
From what I've seen before on threads here, I think Amazon muddle stock up.
So someone using 'fulfilled by amazon' selling a normal branded item may have their stock mixed up with other sellers - Amazon just keep track that they have x of a certain item, and know what share of x belongs to each seller.
So if a seller puts fakes into the supply chain (knowingly or not) you could well end up buying a fake from Amazon themselves.
Caveat - this is my interpretation of what I've read, could be miles off the mark.
Personally if I knew how to spot a fake I'd probably chance it and just return, Amazon don't seem too fussy about returns within the first few days. If I didn't know I'd spend the extra to make sure it's real.

I'd surprised there's any difference in stock logistics at all - I would have expected "fulfilled by Amazon" to be the exact same stock through the exact same supply chain, just that the middleman seller gets a discount off Amazon, some of which they pass on to the customer if they want to undercut Amazon themselves. Which, frankly, sounds like a mug's game.So someone using 'fulfilled by amazon' selling a normal branded item may have their stock mixed up with other sellers - Amazon just keep track that they have x of a certain item, and know what share of x belongs to each seller.

Vendors who ship their own stock are, of course, completely different.
Fulfilled by Amazon (we sell this way) is just us listing our products with Amazon, we list them as being x product, send our stock to Amazon who sell our products, we are the Sold By x , fulfilled by Amazon. There's no check on the product itself by Amazon so it's relatively easy for a scammer to put counterfeit goods into the system.
There are probably a lot of people selling things out of the backdoor via Amazon marketplace so these cheaper deals can be a result of that or other questionable practices. If you buy fulfilled by Amazon as opposed to fulfilled by seller themselves, Amazon look after the returns and payment\refunds so you should be safe if you're able to identify it as fake.

So taking something simple like a PS4 game, it's not uncommon for Amazon to let another seller go 'top spot' and undercut them, but it still shows prime as fulfilled by Amazon. So Amazon have say 100 of that game in stock, 50 purchased by them, 50 from various other sellers. Do Amazon keep their stock separate or just mix it all together to make fulfilment easier?
