I am trying to locate someone that seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. I’m thinking of using a private investigator, has any one used them or done this sort of thing in the past?

Joking aside, some detail on here would give our resident supersleuths a good chance. Who knows, someone here may know them peronsally.

They changed the rules; sleuthing is now verboten.

I would but I’m not sure putting up her name would be a good idea at the moment.

Thank you. It’s not to do with work, it’s a personal matter.
Is there a contact name?

Cheers

I remember when we used to be able to have fun here. Then Ted sold it.

I can assure you it would be work to him (the name I know him by might not be his professional name so won't state it in case of confusion!).

Absolutely, I used some of the tips/suggested ideas on one thread to track down an old Army buddy who’d been off grid for years and got him to a RMAS reunion as a result.

The lounge sleuths weren’t always used for purely evil intentions.

And then created Blasters, which is dead but still fun.

Very interested to know why you want a PI to find a person OP, but if it's 'too' personal then I understand smile

I have the same situation

Lady in Canada got in touch with me to check out her late husbands friends when they lived over here ( we shared the same interest Loco building)

She had a severe accident last Sept 2016 and all contact stopped

Friends in Canada think she has now moved back to UK to live with her brother

So if anyone has had a Canadian lady in a wheelchair aged about 60 move in near to them recently i would really like to know!!

It depends on how much you know about the person and how long ago that knowledge is (and how unusual the name is), but 192.com can provide quite a bit of information free of charge.

For example, if you just know that a person is called John Smith and lived in London 15 years ago that isn't going to find anything. However if their name is Yehudi McEwan (thank you, Billy Connolly) and lived in Carlisle a couple of years ago you would be able to confirm these details and get an idea if he is still on the electoral roll at that address. You won't be able to see the address unless you pay for further information but this isn't expensive if you are intent on finding someone.

If the name is a bit more common but you know the names of a partner and any children who are living at home that can also help you to narrow down options before paying 192.com.

Google can also be useful when you know a name and approximate area as they might be a prominent member of a local club and have mentions in the local press (winning a medal at the Bowling Club, etc.).

I thought the Salvation Army helped re missing folk.
Probably the best I would recommend, all depending on the type of missing person though.
