This is the day when Finland turns 100 years old. It is quite emotional day for me, which is rare. I have an utmost respect for my ancestors. They were tough, hard working and honest people. Living in Finland is sometimes quite hard and we have had quite a lot diificulties. I'm proud that they were able to make our country so good place to live. Now it is time for my generation to take the lead and work hard for good future.

Little bit of summary:

- First people arrived to Finland few thousand years ago
- Sweden did make first crusade to Finland in a year 1150 and did it make part of Sweden
- Independency in 1917
- Civil War 1918
- Winter War 1939
- Continuation War 1941-44
- Lapland War 1944-45

So yeah, take a pint with me to celebrate this day?

For celebrating, you need the official hymn, what else :

I salute Finland for having the most Top Fuel Nitromethane Drag Racers in relation to general population.

Grandma was born in Finland, moved to Sweden aged 6, thus making me part Finnish.

Happy birthday to our brethren to the east!

Good at motor racing and rallying. As the old saying goes -- if you wanna win, hire a Finn.

Good Luck!

Reasonably serious question(s).

What was it called before Finland?

Did the Swedes just call it Sweden?

When did the Swedes release Finland (or whatever)?

No. No. I'll get the next round of drinks.

Reminds me of one of my favourite words.

"Sisu"

"Sisu is a unique Finnish concept. It is a Finnish term that can be roughly translated into English as strength of will, determination, perseverance, and acting rationally in the face of adversity. Sisu is not momentary courage, but the ability to sustain that courage. It is a word that cannot be fully translated."

Happy 100 years young.
