I will start off with the entire diamond industry.

From what I understand there is no shortage of them at all and the value is completely manipulated. People only think that they 'need' to buy diamond do engagement rings due to some very clever marketing by the diamond industry!

'A diamond is for ever'. Well guess what..so is plastic.

They look no better than a fake and serve no purpose at all, yet people willingly fork out thousands of pounds for them.

Is there a bigger 'scam' out there??

Good shout.

I would say tax as well but I will just say inheritance tax and that is really unfair.

Administration fees charged by so many people for doing next to nothing.

For example a £50 fee charged by my insurers for telling them that I am moving, isnt that information just as much for their benefit?

Oil/Fossil Fuels? Maybe expensive to extract but the way prices jump at the tiniest twitch from the middle east or Russia sends prices soaring.

Is 'scam' in quotes because you know, deep down, that really it's not a scam?

No, it's because usually scams are illegal smile

I am thinking that maybe I should have used the term 'racket' rather than scam?

In Ireland we have vehicle registration tax on imported vehicles, approximately 30% of what the revenue deem is the market value.completely in breach of eu laws but our lovely government just pay the fines as it is far more profitable to continue with the tax

I had mobile phone insurance once, I then broke the screen and discovered the excess was about the same as the cost of the screen so I cancelled the policy and the promptly lost the bloody phone!
