My father in law goes all out every year decorating the outside of his house. He lets local charities and a disabled schools come and have photos taken in his garden as a gift to his community.

He’s woken up this morning and some thieving scum have stolen loads of stuff and damaged what the couldn’t steal. He literally spends nearly a week putting it up. All over the roof, garage and front garden.

It’s caught on cctv but you can’t identify anybody. It’s not like he’s causing light pollution to the neighbours opposite as it’s just a sports field.

Electrify everything next year. High voltage like. Take no prisoners. World will spread within the xmas light gypo underworld and you’re old man will gain street rep. It’s up to him how he uses it but trust me, the sky’s the limit.

They should get hold of the thugs, beat them to a pulp and then call an ambiwlans.

I know a carer who stopped off unofficially to check on someone as she was driving home from another appointment a couple of days ago.

As she was in the house, someone pulled up outside and broke into her car and stole the presents that were on the back seat, they were for her son. I know you shouldn't leave things on display and all that, but definately a sign of the times, sadly.

Trust Pistonheads to rip the piss out of my poor spelling rofl I guess I deserved it. Thanks to whoever corrected it.

Such a shame you can’t have anything decent these days without someone stealing or damaging it.

Sorry to hear about the lady who had all her present stolen from her car. Sign of the times it seems.

How low can people get? This takes some beating:

ETA: for those who didn't/can't be arsed to open the link: couple have their stillborn baby's ashes (in a marked box) stolen in a burglary .

Who bothers stealing some xmas lights ffs?

Some people have such a low risk to reward ratio. Some years back someone stole one of my grandfathers headlights from his 96 plate Fiesta. He just drove to the scrappers round the corner and got a replacement for less than £5.

i dont condone the theft or damage in the slightest but “gift to the community” is probably one perspective.....

In the spirit of spreading a little Christmas cheer, I think it's suitable to say that the 'hell in a handcart' sentiment of the quoted post is nuclear-powered, high-velocity, Michelin-star worthy nonsense.

Go about your day, good people of PH, and leave this sort of thing well behind you.

The answer is 'low". I live in a fairly dense urban area where garden sizes are small. Many people put a lot of work into their little gardens which are a riot of bloom in the summer. I came across a woman with a large basket and a shears trimming all of the nicest blooms all down the street. When I challenged her she fled........
