And did you stop. I ran over one tonight, fking thing was a kamikaze, black as the ace of spades, ran out of the dark on a crappy LED lit road and jumped right under the front fking wheel. Did it in the worst possible place on the road as well, I absolutely demolished it, no chance it was still alive, glanced in the mirror and it looked like an omlet.

I immediately thought what do I do now, and by the time I imagined a mad woman screaming cat murderer at me and a hysterical crying child I was half a mile away and it was too late to do anything. I do feel bad about it, knowing my luck it was probably a Christmas gift for a kid with terminal cancer or something but why oh why do people let cats roam free near a main road?

I have got a dash cam of the incident and I have viewed it to make sure I wasn't driving like a tt at the time (I wasn't) but would it be poor taste to post it up.

In 24 years I've hit and killed three stopped to make sure they were dead.
All three out in rural areas.

No, but I was waiting to pull out of a junction and one got hit right in front of me. I jumped out and picked it up and it immediately died so didn't really suffer fortunately.

Yeah I hit one a couple of years ago. It destroyed the front bumper on my car, big fat ginger cat ran out in front of my on a motorway last minute, I had no chance to avoid it and I was going 70 so it was gone pretty quickly.

I can only assume it died instantly, i was worried i'd find it inside my bumper/attached to the underneath of my car but thankfully not.

My dad ran over my A level Geography teachers cat. I never told her I knew the culprit, I doubt I would have got my A if I had!

Totally heartless and shameful behaviour to drive off. Pets are like family members for most people. You wouldn't scarper for a kid.

Last year, stupid thing ran out into the road (rural area) just as I was passing it, felt it go under both left hand wheels.
Looked in my rear view and it was gone, even stopped to check the bushes and was nowhere to be found. Reckon its dead.

Never a cat but I've hit 2 rabbits, 2 deer, a pigeon and a pheasant

If it was a domestic pet I would airways stop to check for a tag at least.

On christmas eve a dog I raised from a new born pup was hit by a car. Devastated isn't the word.
In this case it was found as she darted off after a rabbit but had it been out of sight the unknown and lack of closure would have been worse.

Never hit one, have seen one get hit while crossing at a zebra crossing, driver drove off. A cyclist and myself stopped but it was very dead, the neighbor of the owner came out and removed it, very sad.

I've also come across a dead cat in the road before with stuff coming out it's head. Decided not to touch it, called the RSPCA who arrived in about 5 mins and took it away.

I have hit a dog once, but it was fine, the bloody thing ran out of the boot of the car I was passing and hit the side of my car, no damage. I stopped and the owner was apologetic to me, said competently his fault but dog not hurt car not damaged, left it at that.

Never run over one myself, but the wife's youngest brother and her sister both managed to run over their own cat's.
Both under their cars on the drive, one died, the other lived but the sister in law spent thousands on vets bills.

When I was a kid the family cat got run over in front of our house, my father rung it's neck to finish it off and put it out of it's misery.

One of my cats came back late last Thursday night and was injured. Took him to the vets and he needed major surgery as vet said he'd been hit by a car. It was touch and go on Friday whether he would survive, but the little blighter is strong and is currently on 10 days cage rest which he is spending trying to escape every time we change his food, water or litter tray. As said above, they are members of the family for most people and we would have been devastated if he hadn't pulled through.

So well done OP, you've probably fked up someone's week by not stopping, either by their pet not returning or getting back injured and having to go through experience of vets etc.

fk me Yipper, I’ve agreed with 2 of your posts in 2 days!

Terrible behaviour just driving off. Some people just don’t get that a cat is someone’s pet, someone’s friend. I can’t believe you’d not even stop and drag it off the road/pick it up and take it somewhere to be scanned for a tag

I saw a bloke hit a cat and drive off a few years back, I stopped and recovered the body and took it to an animal hospital so it could at least be returned to the owners.

I fked up their week by flattening their cat, nothing can be down hill from that moment on, maybe if they kept it indoors then it would be ok now. Yes I admit it was a bit ish to leave it but it was obviously dead and there was no way I was up for any sort of confrontation with anyone about it.

So you're quite happy to post about it on an internet forum, but wouldn't stop and actually see if there was anything you could do or let anyone know what had happened?

You, sir, are a of the first order. I hope that something equally important to you gets damaged or taken away anonymously, so you know how it feels.

I've never run over a cat, A deer glanced off my car once, survived.

I saw someone run over a cat, left it dying in the road, i did a u-turn(it was a duel carriageway) and drove back to see if i could help, by the time i got there it was dead. Very sad, and yes probably the cats fault but it is humane to try and help it at the least.

Never hit one, but can see how a cat might be hard to avoid.

I came across one a few weeks ago injured in the road, past saving I suspect (hope). The vets' is 50m from where it was lying in the road so I went back for it. Boot open, sheet in hand, I watched as some myopic, thoughtless, feckless fkwit approached and finished it off. I was raging.
