Recently there have been a number threads “ask a (whatever) absolutely anything” some like Mexman’s have turned out to quite good. However, why is it that posters need to engage lavatorial and vitriolic banter, doing their best to denigrate the OP. and in some cases cause the thread to die prematurely.

Mexman: “Ask a car salesman …”
“How do you get your suits so shiny”
“Do you honestly like those pointy shoes”

Riley Blue: “Ask a pensioner …”
“Do you stink of …”
“Can you still knock …”

However, it’s not just confined to these threads. A recent thread in “Holidays and Travel” one question “What can I do in London early march” chaps flying to London for his wedding anniversary, majority of posters great information, except one Muppet “surprised nobody suggested OP take his wife up the OXO …” F.F.S. the guy is taking his wife to London for their anniversary.
Another thread Girly Girl who’s Porsche had been vandalised, got pretty unpleasant, why this need to belittle and put others down, what for, its not funny and in some cases damn right inappropriate
I’m all for a bit of banter, but the right time and the right place, some threads have contained cracking humour “First World Problems “comes to mind.

So can we get the humour out of the playground and raise the game and show a bit more civility F.F.S.

Have you never been to the Oxo Tower?

My wife and I went there when we were early in our relationship, I think we celebrated the anniversary of our first date there. Really cool place to go, and their "Not Afternoon Tea" was a great boozy way to enjoy ourselves

Of course, I suppose it happens that you COULD suggest that the Oxo Tower is a bit of a euphemism... wink

What has happened to this forum lately, some of the comments in this thread are disgusting
You'll find it's seasonal, just like your post is. At this time a lot of people are off work and a bit bored so it's a good time to let rip. After this initial session it will carry on as Winter continues and we are confined inside because of the weather. Come Spring it will calm down a bit as everyone is a bit happier and gets out to enjoy the sun.

Precious, much?
Why do you think you can dictate the level of someone's humour? The popularity of the defunct Peter Kay tour suggests not everyone likes the same thing.

Maybe, my examples, not so good.
More referring to the second part of my post.
OXO tower, my mistake, I was wrong!
Not trying to dictate level of humour, just raise it a bit.
Precious, certainly not.
Maybe a lack of exposure to British humour, means I'm out of touch.
Riley Blue I'm not offended on your behalf, just find some responses, not so civil!
OK lads and lassies, chaps and chapettes, Ho's and Bro's, let rip!
In a civil way of course!

You’re clearly very upset over these postings. Have you used the report function to raise your concerns to the powers that be?

Then move on somewhere else if you don't like what you see.

Oh come on, the posters that start these 'ask a XXX anything' know exactly to expect a bit of ribbing and teasing and, for the main, the comments have been handled with a bit of humour and in the spirit it was intended for. They are a bit of fun and I quite like reading them as it gives an insight to a world I'm not familiar with and despells a few myths of what actually goes on.

No one, as far as I can see, has been malicious and in the the longest running salesman thread, posters trying to derail and spoil a good thread have been closed down by other posters to try and keep a good thread going. Yes, there been a bit of a proliferation of them of late but is that a bad thing? You don't have to read them if it offends your sensibilities much.

Besides, being in the gutter now and again ain't that bad. Ask Dogstar, he seems to enjoy its inhabitants. smile

That there is the problem. You don't get to decide the right time/place/severity apart from opting out when offended and we have always been able to do that.

I am glad you started this thread though, some posters to run very close to the edge at times, I like that but a counterpoint is always good. thumbup
