I guess you need to include stuff that isn't standard quiz stuff. Maybe history of the organisation with multichoice questions. Or other things related to the organisation that regulars would be relatively good at compared to the outsiders.

we'd like to provide an entertaining evening and a chance to win something for normal people.
By normal people, you mean those with less knowledge than others who take it more seriously. But I know what you mean, this really p1sses me off with the Olympics. All the events seem to be dominated by those who practice for years and are really good. It would be nice to see normal people having a chance of winning gold. I swim every day and I'd bloody love to win gold, but some of these bloody blokes who win every time are miles quicker. And 4 stone lighter. I've got no chance.

Used to get the ‘pro’ pub quizzers at the pub I worked in. Everyone got fed up of the w
kers so the prizes became more and more centred around winning dinner at the pub or beer or anything that wasn’t cash basically. They soon f
ked off.
We had similar, they soon moved on.

ked off.Was helped by the landlord renaming them each time they won (and were therefore announced) to a beige / boring name - team Nigel, team Norman, team Eric etc. I think he was more pissed off they all drank lime and soda, nursing their drink for the hour or two tbh.
I used to run a quiz night at our local and had the same issue. My fix was to use 10 jokers.
Each team had ten jokers with a value of 1 to 10. They could play their joker on any of the ten rounds and the values of that joker would be added to their score for that round. BUT...they had to score a minimum of the joker value for the joker to count. So if they played their Joker 5 and scored 6 then their score for that round would be 11. But if they scored 4, their score for that round would be 4.
It evened it all out quite nicely.

The Christmas quiz my local does has all the answers written onto a bingo sheet where the prizes are awarded for the four corners and/or a line down, and/or line across and then a full house.
This means that knowing all the answers does not necessarily mean you are going to win and adds an element of chance to the quiz. It also combats the people who need a phone to google the answers.
The sheets are proper printed sheets so must be available on ebay/google.

Ah yes the mobile phone, I don't know why people bother frankly, what's the point in cheating? This means that knowing all the answers does not necessarily mean you are going to win and adds an element of chance to the quiz. It also combats the people who need a phone to google the answers.

You couldn't get decent mobile internet signal to save your life in my old local and the guy who took the quiz user to turn the WiFi off, and quite rightly so imo
