Did a spot of Xmas shopping (pre Xmas) and popped into the shops yesterday for the sales. On both occasions the wife was purchasing some of this in various guises for friends and family, so I thought I'd have a look.

Just what the hell is the deal with it? Does it come wrapped in a gold box? £22 for a small tube of shaving gel, £20 for a can of deodorant, £18 for shampoo!!!

Its no wonder the UK is in so much debt if its quite acceptable to spend £20 on 300ml of shower gel.

The worlds going crackers!

You don't have to buy it.

I like the stuff. Smells better than the generic off the shelf shower gel.

I know I don't have to buy it, I didn't as you've probably guessed.

Does it really smell any better though? She actually bought me some for Xmas, in man terms it smells nice, much the same as other nice smelling stuff, no better than I can get for under £5 from various other brands.

Just another name like bayliss and harding can't see what all the fuss is about but supposed to be "premium".

I buy it for my wife, Birthdays and Christmas. She loves it. The fact that I can buy enough Shower Gel from Superdrug to last me one year for the price of a single bottle of Molton Brown shower gel does wrangle, though.

In the City there are numerous branches of Molton Brown, so there is considerable demand. I now buy it online. It's no cheaper but going into the shops it's very easy to be talked into buying more than you planned for.

Check out Aesop, Malin & Goetz and many more if you think that’s expensive.

I do like some of their stuff. It is massively overpriced.

I'm sure half of what is sold is for Christmas presents. It's a luxury that people struggle to justify otherwise.

Jo Malone stuff seems to fall into a similar category.

Mrs Harpoon dragged me into one of their stores - the cost of the big candles they sell eek

£300! Might as well stay at home to burn a pile of twenty quid notes and save the trip to the shop in the first place.

We have it, the boss doesn't know that it has been topped up with Aldi slop for the last 6 months

It’s what middle class women put in their bathrooms at home - then get annoyed when guests use it

The best of the bargain stuff for me has to be M&S Woodspice. Lovely stuff and each item is about £2.50.

Still going down the same plughole.

I spend plenty on things which will last, but I don't understand spending on stuff that's literally going down the drain. Each to their own though.

Aldi do their own version, we have it, the wife swears it is the same stuff as Molton Brown; she isn't doing it to convince herself, she actually believes it is because it is the same colour, consistency and smell.

Not one for washing or waxing the car then?

That belongs in the council thread, along with all candles in jars. They mostly smell sickly and who in their right mind thinks they look nice? I'll stick with a candlestick and a candle thanks.

The Woodspice aftershave in the green bottle is lovely.

Molton Brown stuff is nice but the prices are stiff. I like the black pepper shower gel in particular. I buy it occasionally.
