Who on earth thought these were a good idea? Pretty much every pair of jeans I've looked at to buy recently has had this instead of a good old zip! I managed to find 1 pair I liked with a zip fly. Honestly, whenever you go to the loo you end up looking like you're playing with yourself, and take twice as long, if you try to cheat by not opening all the buttons you end up "kinking the hose" and spraying in a most embarrassing way, or, worse, putting it back and ending up with residual piss escaping in your pants when it becomes unkinked!

The worst thing I found was that zip flies were prevalent in skinny jeans, but if you have proper sized legs they are far less common!!

Pah!

If a zip bursts.... more than likely the jeans are in the bin.

I love buttons! You can just tear them apart and flop your dick out in under a second. Perfect for emergencies.

I'll give you that, it's the putting it all back together which is a pain!

In all of my years, I've only ever had one zip break on me (and that was a 5 yr old pair of Levis). If a £25 pair of jeans lasts me 2 years, I'll be happy.

Button up jeans are pretty annoying if you're going to the pub because they are a pain in the arse to do up again and I don't like standing in a busy lav playing with my jeans (I treat public lavs like the far right lane of the motorway, get in there, do what you need to and get back out, I don't hang around for the ambience).

Buttons are the ‘correct’ fastening for a pair of jeans, as far as history goes. The zip fly only really became prevalent towards the 1950s when companies like Levi expanded towards America’s East coast (or so I’ve read). That said, what type of fit are you hoping to find with a zip? Chances are, there’s something similar out there.

Agreed. Plus I always think you must look weird if you are stood there for ages fiddling. Drink doesn't help my dexterity either!

I much prefer button fly to a zip. never breaks and no catching your knob doing it up. Of course not everybody may have as big a package as me to get caught. hehe

Should middle aged men be wearing jeans? They're a bit Clarkson.

Nope, buttons are the old fastening for a pair of jeans. Being old does not make them "correct".

The zip only really started being mass produced in the 1960's (by Talon Zipper in the USA, then overtaken by YKK from Japan) and became popular around that time despite zip fastened clothing being sold since the 1930's.

While we're here, along with buttons becoming more populate, it seems underwear makers are getting rid of the 'flap', which pisses me off.

You used to be able to get Calvin Kleins where they had two layers of material over the front, that kept your Johnson inside, but could be opened for ease of access when taking a pee.

Now they've got rid of them, so I have to undo my belt, undo my trousers to take a pee. Used to be able to just unzip, open, done.

It's a global conspiracy I tell you.

What do you suggest middle aged men are mandated to wear, beige stay-press, fawn Farrahs or olive Rohans?

Jeans predate the invention of the zip, so buttons are the 'correct' fastening.
