Is Timpson the Kwikfit of the shoe world?
Discussion
My shoes needed re heeling, not worn flat but some sort of rubber tip needed I’d say.
Took them to Timpsons.
Fella quoted £45! I kid you not. This was heels, not soles, not polishing just re heel.
I may be out of touch and that’s the going rate but I politely declined.
Do people pay that?

Did they suggest they needed extra work over what you expected?
I fail to see the parallels - just because it was more than you expected doesn't mean it's in any way similar to a chain renowned for recommending additional unnecessary work.
Shoe repair hasn't been economically viable for some time unless you have particularly PH director shoes.

I had that or there abouts quoted a little while back for heels AND soles at one of their branches.
I also declined, instead I bought a new pair from M&S reduced in the sale from £69 to £49.
Shame, as the uppers were still decent.
A pair before I had reheeled at Timpson previously didn't last either so the new pair made sense.
Girlfriend and I had keys cut for each other to our respective houses at the same branch recently - neither key worked first time!!

Bit unfair to compare them to Kwikfit.
Watch battery on G-shock (2 batteries) - £25, lifetime replacement. I still have the little card from 4 years ago so... They also attempted a battery change on another watch - turned out the coil was damaged so not their fault; Anglesey Watches had to fix it for £40+.
Car keys - had it changed no problem after the original cracked
Padlock key - needed refinishing once

We had Timpsons at our prison, some company bigwig came in to do a presentation. Apparently they are very good work placements for released prisoners although they take no s
t. One strike and you're out, even lateness seems to be penalised (rightly so).
I was surprised to hear they are the UK's largest leading retail service provider, whatever that means...

I guess it must depend on which store you go to because they would not touch my G-shock when i needed a new battery. Watch battery on G-shock (2 batteries) - £25, lifetime replacement. The other G-shocks i have are solar powered so no more battery issues.

I took a pair of the O/H's shoes to a local Timpsons for top pieces (heel tips) to be replaced. On collection they were put into a bag a bit too quickly so I had a look at them before we left. Both heels were very badly scuffed, the replacement top pieces weren't flush with the heel profile and O/H considered they'd been ruined. We were given them back at no charge + £50 compensation.
Another time they were advertising car keys at a special sale price. I called at another local branch and explained exactly what I wanted to be told they couldn't supply that type there but a city branch 15 miles away could. I phoned that branch, asked about the cost and was told 'No problem, come in anytime.' When I got there and showed the key I was told it would cost over double what they'd agreed on the phone - which they denied telling me an hour previously.
We no longer use them, even though it may mean paying more elsewhere.

Got a mate who does shoes / keys with a shop in the High Street he owns (low overheads). One man band and works 6 days a week but has a nice car and nice house with a wife who doesn't work so must be doing alright. He doesn't charge anywhere near that much so sounds like going to an independent is best.
