Sorry no Photo but had to show respect.

Attending meetings in New Delhi this week and spotted something that just shouldn't happen.
On the motorway heading to a clients office and an ambulance past us.
It was one of those small short wheel base Toyota Hiace things.
As it went past, I notice that the rear hatch was pointing up in the air, with the feet end of a body, sticking out the back.
Obviously to long for the van!!!

It looked rather Monty Python like.

India is a bit of a different world, some of my team are based there and life is very very different.

Hi,

I'm from India and have been living in the UK for about 14 years. And you're both right, it's a sad state of affairs. For all the progress India is making, there is a lack of it when it comes to valuing human life and then putting in standards and procedures to ensure that humans are treated with care. And if you've visited India, you can see it everywhere - building regulations, highway codes, driving tests, car safety legislation etc. And that's something that I appreciate about the UK tremendously (among many, many other things).

This.

You just don't appreciate how much this "nanny stating" makes a difference until you've lived somewhere without it.

I used to live in the Philippines, standards you'd take for granted here in the UK you'd never get. Builders had to be watched like a hawk or they'd cut corners and steal materials. Wires would be coiled up an stuffed into the junction box instead of cut and spliced, fuses bypassed rather than replaced. Even crossing the road is a risk because drivers think that you have to get out of their way and not one of them would have passed a UK driving test (most of them didn't even pass the Filipino one, they just exchanged a few Peso's for their license... or didn't even bother with that).
