Discussion
As an antithesis to some of the unfortunate circumstances some of us find ourselves in from time to time, I would like to see if there is room in the Lounge for you to share your recent/imminent achievements, goals, dreams etc.
Now, as significant it may be to you, this topic isn't really aimed at those who are celebrating a new watch, the first solid poo from their newborn and those sort of developments (as significant as they might be).
As a guide, the recent threads by PHers CaineIsCarter, Lagerlout, Pieman68 and CarreraLightweightRacing are the sort of Good News I'm sure we're all interested in reading about. So over to you, if you want to contribute - feel free to post about achieving your significant goals.
The above PHers will be asked to drop a line or two in the thread to get things rolling, unless there's something on the horizon you can't keep to yourself...

At the request of the OP, I'll chip in with the an extract from the thread he mentions
I can't believe it!
CLR has been approved by the Rheinland Federal TUV Approval board. I have just been contacted with this news that my CLR prototype 996 has been accepted and certified. I really can't get over what this means. Right now I can only say it feels like I have just had a car accident that I should have died in and I have walked away without a scratch. I'm physically shaking!
To get your own technical designs approved in Germany is not something I ever thought would happen, especially so with no formal background in vehicle design. The last few years have been battles everyday; not just the technical side but family, financial, time and all the other things associated with a project of this nature. To think that the design drawings I've been doing on the dining room table at 02:00hrs in the morning for system designs that had perhaps failed 4 times previously or lying on the garage floor in -10.C battling ideas that seemed impossible... It just seems surreal that the moment has come. I'm off for a stiff one or six!*

- My apologies if you have read this elsewhere. In my defence, I am a little excited

Fairly generic and certainly nothing special but I will have finished my degree in Electrical Engineering come May; just dotting the I's and crossing the T's on my project at the moment. I'm 29 (I'll be 30 by then) and I qualified as an electrician during an apprenticeship after leaving school, my highest level of qualification at the moment is a HND in instrumentation and controls, slow but steady.
I can't wait, biggrin

Very happy to contribute to the good vibe of this thread, but am slightly worried about coming across as a smug git...
In my 52nd year, I've just bought my first Porsche; a brand new base model Cayman which I can't drive because of all the snow, but which is nonetheless making me stupidly happy just sitting there on my drive.
I appreciate that "man buys car" is not much of a top line, but three years ago I was dossing down on a camp bed in my empty gaff after being thrown out of cohabitation my ex, and things were looking a bit rubbish, really.
But life is strange. For what it's worth, I genuinely believe we are avatars in a highly advanced simulation as incomprehensible to us as is our world to the digital representations in The Sims. But I have learned two eternal truths:
1. Life is Not Fair.
2. Hard work is no guarantee of success, but without it, you have no chance.
I stood in a freezing showroom at 7am while they unveiled my new car, and it felt rather special.

Great thread, and congratulations to the guys who have posted.
I also have a thread on here - but it's a renovation one. I have lived in my area for 15 years, and have had my eye on this derelict old pile for years. Wife and I have, renovated, sold, bought, renovated, sold and last September bought this old wreck - our dream home, and renovated it too. We have our dream home.
Doesn't compare to having a lightweight 996 approved by the TUV, or picking yourself out of a camp bed and building a new life, but I feel pretty bloody happy with this achievement. Hoping to settle after years of building work in different properties, all aimed at this place. And after trying for years, and looking down the barrel of IVF, we are expecting our first child. I want to make this house a home for our kids, and hopefully for grandkids to play in one day.
Excuse the pics - we're not quite finished yet!

Fantastic - how many years and what are your hopes/plans?

Two to study for it as I have an HND in a similar discipline; I was able to start on the third year of a four year course. It has been company funded too which was a bonus, although they want it back if I leave! There's a two year claw back period, it drops from 100% to 0% in 25% increments every six months.
Plans, nothing immediate in honesty. I currently hold a role that requires the qualification; the company recently gave me it on the proviso that I finished the degree as the role was made vacant by a chap who was retiring (age sixty, the lucky sod), he was good to me, he has probably forgotten more than I will ever know!

I work in the oil and gas industry which is currently a tad depressed, the role, salary and potential are enough to keep me more than happy for now; I certainly can't complain at least! I have bee in worse employment situation, that's for sure!

Maybe it felt special but surely even bigger news is 'man has crap time in life and comes out the other side with a full head of hair'. Seriously, well done. Been there, done less than half of that, . No nice car for me, but a nicer new wife and still have my hair.
