I need a parka and am prepared to buy a decent one.

I tried on a Moncler one and looked like a cross between a black rapper and a giant Quality Street.

The Canada Goose ones seemed to wear me. Ditto the Woolrich.

I've ordered a North Face McMurdo because they seem good value.

I have wondered about FJÄLLRÄVEN

Any parka wearers able to suggest some options/. I'm a middle aged man, so nothing outré.

TIA.

Didriksons are good. I’ve got a parka and two fleecy hoodies, warm and well made and a hell of a lot cheaper than Canada Goose et al

Coats seem to be a hot topic at work at the mo. Everyone is buying musto's, they are meant to be pretty good.

A search of Google has thrown up the Nigel Cabourn Everest Parkas.

They look great - as in properly lovely - but wow, they're expensive. Still, I doubt you'll find someone else wearing one and it'll remain away from the chav brigade.

They are pricey and I am not sure about the "ribbon" belt. You gets what you pays for and all that, but how are they £3k?

Is The North Face chavvy do we think?

Moncler do plenty of more lowkey parkas but have a look at Mackage, Herno, Peuterey and Nobis.

I have a North Face McMurdo, does everything you want from a coat, hardly chavy. It's just a parka coat.

I've been wearing mine all winter and find it's too hot with anything more than just a t-shirt on underneath.

Brilliant bit of kit.

Agreed.

I don’t think TNF’s designs are chavvy however the problem with anything other than the very high-end outerwear available is that hoodlums have realised that outerwear does a really good job at keeping you warm, dry etc. when outside for a reasonably acceptable price. Given they spend a lot of time outside causing mischief, they’ve now purchased these items in great numbers and as such, any mainstream outerwear brand is likely to have fallen foul of becoming a bit of a chav icon.

I bought on of these recently for watching my son playing rugby. Following this weeks sub zero temps i have been cooking in this coat when walking the dog.

It is so warm i have no idea why one would spend multiples more on what is effectivly the same thing.

They are hand made in the UK which bumps the price up.
They were 1500 a few years ago so no idea why they have gone up so much.
Probably brexit or summat.

Since the 1970s. Too much snobbery about NF, my last jacket id 8 years old and my down one as still going strong.

But if you want to spend x5 more then fair dos,,but 'cheaper' jackets are just as good.

You can buy a jacket for £3k? A jacket? To wear outside in the rain and snow or to walk the dog in? £3,000? For a man?

Does it teleport me to a brothel full of playboy girls when I wear it?

The TNF parka I've ordered to take a look at is nothing like that price. it's about £300.

£3k for that Cabourn is definitely pretty mental but this is also a bit like saying why spend £80k on an E63 when you could just have a Vauxhall Vectra? I mean, they're both cars right?

North Face for me, got one from their clearance shop a couple of years ago, quite honestly the warmest jacket I've ever owned, perhaps too warm!

But in this case, the E63 is built with a non waterproof semi windproof material from the 20’s (ventile), while the vectra is carbon fibre all singing all dancing. Either are fine depending on purpose, but in this case E63 = warm and semi dry in the high street, Vectra = actually decent stuff on the fells. There’s a whole load of crap talked about it, but in this case (and no disrespect to the OP), I think he’s after something warm and semi wind/waterproof, whereas for the actual ‘intended purpose’ the vectra option would be better. What worked in the past does not necessarily mean it’s better than more other options.

Rinsing mouth out after apparently recommending vectra by the way.
