Has anyone else noticed puddles / small flooding / blocked drains where they have never noticed before?

It happening a lot here in Southampton, for example my parents road that I have known since childhood now floods frequently and water is coming up out of the drains

Also the surrounding area has all of its ditches full, where as we've never really seen it.

I work in London from time to time and I have started to notice fully blocked drains on the pavements

Is this just me getting old and noticing dull stuff, or is it cuts or something else like more building?

It's been a pretty wet year. We have lived in our house for almost 10 years - and have never seen standing water in the back garden and the field next to us until this year.

According to the met office data - around 10 or 11 of the last 12 months have seen above average rainfall (some well above) - so the water table must be high and the ground just hasn't had time to drain.

In my area - 2017 ranks 23rd out of 145 years for total rainfall. 2015 and 2016 were also quite wet (both well within the top half of the total rainfall table).

Everything's just soggy, normal dog walking paths have turned to streams. The verge of the road is just mud, potholes appearing everywhere.

Fed up of it now. frown

Spending cuts mean they haven't cleaned the drains out.
I read an article a couple of months ago that claimed one of the Southern regions was in danger of drought this year due to the dry Winter!
Near me they did that stupid pie key road fix whereby they spray tar on the already buggered road and sling some gravel over it. Fast forward 6 months, several thousand stone chips later and large parts of it have worn off and blocked the drains.

More house building taking away trees that used to soak up water. More house building adding pressure into an already overloaded sewage system. More house building, generally!!

I’m in Southampton too and have seen exactly the same thing, pretty much everywhere! Luckily I live on a hill thoughsmile

Front gardens that were previously lawn turned into concrete parking that now flow to the street drains.
