Step child - how does this work?
Discussion
Listening to the radio today, and someone was describing having two children with their wife, one 28 and one 15 (I think - I may have that slightly wrong).
But the part that piqued my interest was a step child who was 27 (I'm absolutely sure the step child was one year younger than the oldest).
Now unless one of the parents was an incredibly understanding spouse (no that's fine dear, I'm cool with you having a baby with someone else only a year after our first, and of course the child can live with us!), I can't see how that could happen.
I'm probably missing something really obvious (or I did completely mishear it, but I don't think I did), but it's been bugging me all day. How do you end up with a step child one year younger than your eldest child?

My dad was with my step mum, my older half sister was born. Step mum kicked him out, he married my mum and I came along, my mum kicked him out and he went back to my step mum and had another daughter. So kinda similar but different ages to your post. The intricacies of family relationships always confuse me.
When I was younger I had a friend who had a nephew that was older than him. His mum had got married, had a kid, divorced, then many years later got remarried and had another kid. In the meantime, his brother (21 years older than him) had had a baby with his girlfriend. Think the nephew was two years older than him.
Took us a little while to work that out as kids.

They weren't married when the first child was conceived (intentional or not) or maybe even been in a proper relationship.
Mother then has a further child with someone else (intentional or not).
They then do get together at a later date and have a second child together.
among all that, they get married.
So the guy as two children with his 'now' wife and one step-child.
