Only asking as not but five minutes ago I found myself running outside waving my arms and shooing the pigeons off my lawn to stop them eating the grass seed...just like my dad used to do; it's a slippery slope I guess.

I bear no resemblance to my father. I don't sound like him, act like him or have any of the same interests. I'm still yet to be convinced we're actually related in any way.

If I started turning into him I'd be mortified.

Not in the slightest. I sometimes wonder if he is even my dad.

I turned into mine years ago....

The first thing I noticed was that when driving the car he would press the button on the end of the handbrake lever !

I now do it.

Oh yes, simply unavoidable.
I've been working hard to slow it down, trimming eye brows, ear and nose hair etc., but its still happening.

Yes, already this year I'm becoming more frustrated with the lack of a suitable opportunity to give the lawn the first mow of the season, its too long, but every time I have a weekend off, it is raining. I also talk to myself whilst doing DIY projects, another habit that my dad has as he works out the measurements for things before cutting or drilling into them

Yes.

More and more I inadvertently find myself with stupid habits and mannerisms that he has, I'm mortified every time I see them in myself.

I have quite a few of my dads traits and i didnt mind this so much until i was getting in the shower looked in the mirror and noticed i have a little gut i look like my dad body hair included.

Personality wise im quite like him but thankfully inherited my mums sense of humour.

Put it this way - I don't get to see my brother all that often and when he last saw me he greeted me by my Dad's name. Taking the pee, of course, but if the cap fits! Growing a beard is what finally did it.

No. With one exception. When I see a light on in an empty room, I turn it off. That is SO my dad.

I hate that ratchety clicking noise, especially when yanked up sharply. Mechanically more sympathetic to depress the button

That's not just your dad though, that's everyone's dad.

The wife said I was when I started listening to LBC in the car!

However on a more serious note I honestly don't think I am:

  • He was outgoing, I'm not.
  • He had many friends and acquaintances; I don't.
  • He needed people around him, I don't
  • Under that outgoing exterior was a man who needed to be liked and to get recognition, I don't.
  • He liked being the centre of attention. I don't.
My sister is like him, I'm like my mum.

That's me; my dad would have lights on everywhere and the heating too, according to my aunt it was because my grandad was such a tyrant with my dad when it came to penny pinching and it was his way of rebelling.

Well I didn't run off never to be seen again when my wife got pregnant, so no, not really like him at all.

Yep, my Dad got the first family caravan in 1978 when I was 6 and my brother 4. We've just bought our first caravan and surprisingly my kids are also 4 & 6, I probably swore some years ago that I'd never have one. Looking forward to threatening my kids with cutting the holiday short when they're playing up and losing it with them in the car when they're being noisey or bickering with each other biggrin
